'Dogs to host UCSB, Cal Poly

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team will host two matches in the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center this weekend. The Bulldogs will face UCSB on Friday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. PT and Cal Poly on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. PT.
Admission to Fresno State men's tennis matches is free of charge.Â

- Fresno State went 2-0 in a doubleheader on Jan. 27 against Air Force and Holy Names. The Bulldogs earned their first Mountain West win over the Falcons (4-3), and finished the day with a win over the Hawks (7-0).
- Fresno State has one nationally ranked player on its roster in No. 118 Zdenek Derkas.
- Derkas was named the Mountain West Player of the Week on Jan. 22, after notching a combined 3-1 record to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week on the road.
- Derkas is the only Bulldog have wins over ranked opponents this season. He defeated No. 53 Adrian Otezback (Pepperdine) and No. 60 Lukas Moenter (LMU).
- Last time the Bulldogs faced the Gauchos, UCSB took the win 6-1 to halt Fresno State's 6-0 start to the season in 2018. Fresno State owns the all-time series between the programs 20-7, but UCSB has won the last three matches.
- Last time the Bulldogs faced the Mustangs, Fresno State was victorious 4-3 in the ASU Invitational on Feb. 9, 2018. Fresno State owns the all-time record between the teams 19-11, but Cal Poly has won the five out of six matches.

- The Gauchos have tabbed wins over San Diego State (5-2) and South Alabama (4-1). UCSB fell to No. 5 USC (6-1).
- UCSB has three nationally ranked players on its roster in No. 9 Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, No. 25 Joseph Guillin and No. 87 Victor Krustev.
- Krustev was named the Big West Player of the Week on Jan. 30, after upsetting No. 19 Laurens Verboven to give the Gauchos their only point against No. 5 USC.
- UCSB finished its 2018 season with an overall record of 18-7 (5-0 Big West). The Gauchos won the 2018 Big West Championship and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Cal Poly is 2-3 this season, 1-1 on the road.
Team Notes:
- Cal Poly has wins over West Point (4-2) and Michigan State (4-3). The Mustangs have losses to Yale (4-3), No. 5 USC (4-0) and South Alabama (4-3).
- Cal Poly has had four consecutive winning seasons.
