History with UNLV
Splitting its first six games between home and the road, Fresno State is in the midst of playing three straight games away from home, having played two at the LMU Thanksgiving last weekend before opening the Mountain West season at UNLV on Tuesday night.Â
- Fresno State will play six of its first nine games this season away from home.
- The six games is the most away from home for the Bulldogs during the first nine games of a season since the Bulldogs played seven of the first nine games outside of Fresno to start the 2009-10 season.
No rest for the weary  Â
Following Saturday's game at Georgetown, the Bulldogs will need to pace themselves with little time to rest. Fresno State will have had two days off, with one of those being a travel day, to prepare for Tuesday night's conference opener at UNLV.Â
Sure-handed  Â
After nearly doubling its season average in turnovers last Friday with 18 in a 20-point loss to Yale, the Bulldogs rebounded with only eight 24 hours later in a 13-point with in over Georgetown. With six in the first 12 minutes, the 'Dogs went more than 26 minutes without committing one. The Bulldogs rank seventh in the NCAA in fewest turnovers per game, committing 11.0 per game. Â
- With three guards who can run the point, the 'Dogs expect to be below the 14.3 turnovers that they averaged a season ago. They have been over that number once in the first eight games this season.
- Ranking only sixth in the league in assists, the Bulldogs' low turnover frequency still has them second the MW and ranking No. 30 in the NCAA with a 1.23 assist-turnover ratio.
Balance, balance, balance   Â
Fresno State's 82-69 win over Georgetown came with one of its most complete performances of the season, shooting a season-high 53.4 percent from the field and recording a season-best 18 assists. The Bulldogs also saw five players score in double figures for the first time since Feb. 16, 2019 in a 77-70 win over New Mexico. Haley Cavinder posted a game-high 24 points, while Maddi Utti had 19, Hanna Cavinder and Aly Gamez had 12 apiece and Wytalla Motta registered a season-high 10.
Explosive trio   Â
In five of Fresno State's eight games, the trio of Maddi Utti, Hanna Cavinder and Haley Cavinder has led the Bulldogs in scoring.Â
- The trio has twice accounted for at least 84 percent of the team's scoring.Â
- Fresno State is 4-1 when the trio are the team's top three scorers.
- The Bulldogs are the only team in the Mountain West with three players ranking in in the top 10 in scoring.
- All three have two 20-point games this season, with the Cavinders each having three. The Bulldogs are the only team in the Mountain West with three players who have posted multiple 20-point performances.
Two of the nation's most productive freshmen  Â
Scoring 16.4 points per game, Haley ranks fifth among freshmen in the NCAA while Hanna ranks her behind at 16.3. While their scoring is similar as they rank as two of the top freshmen in the country, how Haley and Hanna Cavinder have gotten to their totals has been different.Â
- Haley has attempted the fourth-most 3-pointers by a freshman (62) while making the third-most (23). More than half of her points are coming from 3 (69 of 131).
- Hanna has been much more of a driver, getting to the free-throw line for the fifth-most attempts among freshmen (42), making the second-most (35).
Ordering up double-doubles  Â
After picking up seven double-doubles during conference play a season ago, Utti posted her first of the 2019-20 season at Portland on Nov. 17 with an impressive 29-point, 11-rebound performance in front of a pro-Utti crowd for the Seaside, Oregon native. Her second came last weekend with 15 and 10 against Yale.
- Utti ranks tied for ninth on the Fresno State all-time list for career double-doubles.
- Utti entered the 2019-20 season with the most career double-doubles of active players in the Mountain West.
- Utti is one of five players in the MW to record multiple double-doubles this season.
Sharpshooters  Â
While Fresno State's starters have done the bulk of the scoring, Jordanna Porter and Kendyll Kinzer have been sparks off of the bench with their efficiency from 3. The two have combined to shoot 45.7 percent from beyond the arc this season.
- With a quick and efficient stroke from 3, Porter is leading the team at 47.6 percent (10-of-21) while Kinzer is at 42.9 (6-of-14).
