'Dogs rout Mustangs, 4-1

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team defeated Cal Poly 4-1 at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs have won four of their last five matches.
"We had a great bounce back today," said head coach Luke Shields. "Cal Poly is always tough, so it was good to jump on them early in doubles and get that point. We had a lot of energy today. The guys played together as one unit. We hope to carry this momentum into next week."Â
Fresno State improves to 5-2 (1-0 MW) on the season, and 3-1 at home.
Doubles – Fresno State sported a new doubles lineup with Mantas Bugailiskis and Angus Bradshaw at No. 1, Zdenek Derkas and Cem Erturk at No.2 along with Patrik Pech and Cagatay Soke at No. 3.
The Bulldogs had a dominating performance in doubles play. Soke and Pech defeated their opponents 6-3. The doubles point was clinched at the No. 1 position when Bugailiskis and Bradshaw bested their opponents 6-4, winning the Bulldogs' third consecutive doubles point.Â
Singles – Fresno State took a 2-0 lead when #118 Derkas blew past his opponent 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Cal Poly earned its first point of the match when Bradshaw fell 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 position.
Jeremy Moser came up big for the Bulldogs at the No. 5 position, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-3 to take a 3-1 lead over the Mustangs.
The match was clinched when Erturk outlasted his opponent in a battle at the No. 6 position 6-4, 7-5.
The matches on courts #3 and #4 were pushed into third sets and left unfinished.
What's next – Fresno State will travel to Arizona to face East Tennessee State and Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 17.
