PITTSBURGH -Â In only its second year back as a program since 2006 and for the first time since 2003, the Fresno State Wrestling program will have an All-American at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
With four victories in the consolation bracket on Friday, junior 197-pounder Josh Hokit has assured himself of a top six finish in this year's 197-pound weight class.
"It is amazing and a dream come true," said Hokit on the moment he clinched the win that officially clinched him as an All-American. "When you first start wrestling, you watch the NCAA championship and I am finally here and I get to be on the podium. It is amazing."
Staying alive on Friday morning with a pair of victories, the two-sport athlete got his day started with a 6-3 win over No. 31 seed Brett Perry of Buffalo breaking open a 2-2 tie with an escape & takedown in the third period to go along with a riding time point for the victory.
Moving on to face No. 24 seed Jake Jakobsen of Lehigh in the next round of consolation, Hokit squeaked out a 4-3 win over the Mountain Hawk sophomore as a pair of first period takedowns were enough to hold on for the one-point win.
