Fresno State succumbs to Utah State, 4-1

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team had four singles matches go into third sets before falling to Utah State 4-1, Friday night in the Spalding G. Wathen. Junior Zdenek Derkas chalked the Bulldogs' lone point with a win at the No. 1 position to remain undefeated in Mountain West play.

Fresno State falls to 13-10 (3-2 MW) on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles – Fresno State displayed a new doubles lineup with Zdenek Derkas and Patrik Pech at the No. 1 position, Cem Erturk and Jeremy Moser at the No. 2 position along with Angus Bradshaw and Cagatay Soke at the No. 3 position.

The Aggies took wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to come away with the doubles point. The match at the No. 3 position was left unfinished with the Bulldogs up 5-2.

Singles – Utah State extended its lead to 2-0 when Henrique Osorio fell to his opponent at the No. 6 position 6-0, 6-1.

The Bulldogs got their first point on the scoreboard when Derkas bested his opponent in straight sets at the No. 1 position 6-3, 6-4. Derkas owns a perfect 5-0 record in conference play.

The final four matches on court were pushed into third sets. Utah State took a 3-1 lead when Jeremy Moser fell 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 at the No. 3 position. The match was clinched at the No. 5 position when Soke fell at the No. 5 position to his opponent in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Fresno State was leading in the two matches that were left unfinished.
