Fresno State topples Boise State, 4-2

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team finished the weekend with a 4-2 victory over Boise State in the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improve to 14-10 (4-2 MW) on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles – Fresno State sported a new doubles lineup with Zdenek Derkas and Patrik Pech at the No. 1 position, Angus Bradshaw and Cagatay Soke at the No. 2 along with Henrique Osorio and Cem Erturk at the No. 3 position.
Boise State struck first with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position. It was battle for the doubles point, both matches left on court were pushed to tiebreakers. Pech and Derkas earned a hard-fought win at the No. 1 position 7-6 (7-5). Bradshaw and Soke fell to the Broncos at the No. 2 position 7-6 (8-6), clinching the doubles point for Boise State.
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Singles – Erturk led 6-2, 2-0 before his opponent retired at the No. 4 position, tying the match 1-1. Derkas led 6-2, 1-0 before his opponent retired at the No. 1 position, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Derkas remains undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 record.
Fresno State extended its lead to 3-1 when Cagatay Soke bested his opponent in straight sets at the No. 5 position 6-3, 6-3. Boise State fought back to take the win at the No. 3 position 7-5, 6-1.
The match was clinched at the No. 2 position when Bradshaw defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-3.
The match at the No. 6 position was left unfinished.
