'Dogs down Wolf Pack on Senior Day, 4-1

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team posted a 4-1 win over Nevada on Senior Day at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the match, the Bulldogs honored the team's three seniors in Mantas Bugailiskis, Jeremy Moser and Patrik Pech. Bugailiskis and Moser both picked up singles wins in their senior day matches to help lead the 'Dogs to their win.
The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 15-10 (5-2 MW) record and secured the No. 3 seed for the 2019 Mountain West Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by Fresno State, April 25-27.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles – Fresno State's lineup featured Zdenek Derkas and Pech at the No. 1 position, Bugailiskis and Cem Erturk at the No. 2 position along with Angus Bradshaw and Cagatay Soke at the No. 3 position.
The Bulldogs started doubles strong, Bugailiskis and Erturk bested their opponents 6-1 at the No. 2 position. The Wolf Pack took wins at the No. 1 and the No. 3 positions to secure the doubles point.
Nevada took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Singles – Soke tied the match 1-1 after a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 6 position. Fresno State took a 2-1 lead when Bugailiskis defeated his opponent at the No. 2 position 6-3, 6-2. The Bulldogs extended their lead 3-1 at the No. 1 position, when Derkas posted a 7-5, 6-4 win to finish the regular season undefeated in conference play. Derkas has won 13 consecutive matches at the No. 1 position.Â
The final three matches on court were pushed into third sets, two of them reaching third set tiebreakers. Moser clinched the match at the No. 4 position, winning a hard-fought third set tiebreaker 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) to chalk a win for the Bulldogs on Senior Day.
The matches at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions were left unfinished.
