FRESNO, Calif. – After a 1-1 stalemate through seven innings Nevada scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to win the series finale over Fresno State, 5-1, on Sunday at Margie Wright Diamond.
Â
After scoring 16 totals runs and winning the first two games of the series comfortably, Fresno State (27-14, 5-7 MW) was limited to just one run on Sunday as Kendall Fritz walked six batters but allowed just three hits over eight innings pitched. Nevada (22-16, 7-5 MW) batted around in the top of the eighth, scoring four runs on three hits, two walks, and a hit batter.
Â
The Bulldogs had runners reach base in seven of the eight innings but Fritz held them to 1-for-18 hitting with runners on base with a 1-for-12 mark with runners in scoring position as Kelcey Carrasco drove in the lone Bulldog run with an RBI double in the second inning. McKenzie Wilson completed a sensational week at the top of the Bulldog lineup going 2-for-3 with a walk and her 26th stolen base of the season. Freshman Danielle Lung allowed just one run and two hits over the first seven innings of the game before Nevada's offensive outburst in the eighth.
Â
How it Happened
All of the scoring in regulation came in the second inning. Nevada got on the board first as Ashley Salausa led off the second with a solo home run, her fourth of the season, ending Lung's remarkable streak of 22.0 consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run.
Â
Fresno State got the run back in the bottom of the second. Vanessa Hernandez drew a six-pitch walk to open the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored the tying run on Carrasco's third double of the season (watch).
Â
Lung did not permit a Nevada runner to get past second base over the next five innings. The Bulldogs left a runner on second in the fourth inning and got their leadoff hitter on base with a walk in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings but could not move her past second base.
Â
In the top of the eighth Nevada took the lead as two of the first three hitters doubled. The Wolf Pack loaded the base with two out and scored three more runs on an infield single, a hit batter, and a wild pitch. The Bulldogs again got the leadoff hitter aboard as Haley Fuller was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the eighth but nothing more materialized.
Â
Notable
The Bulldogs are on the road next week for a MW series at Utah State Thursday-Saturday.

Notable
- Wilson's 26 stolen bases this season are the fifth most by a Bulldog in program history and just eight shy of the single season record. In five games this week she was 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts and also hit 9-for-16 (.563) with a .611 on-base percentage and six runs scored.
- Lung allowed just 16 hits and struck out 13 over her 22.0 innings pitched without allowing an earned run, spanning four appearances and the first inning of Sunday's game.
- The Bulldogs played just their second extra-inning game of the year and the first since going nine innings in the second game of the season on Feb. 7.
- Despite the loss on Sunday Fresno State claimed its second consecutive MW series win and has won five of its last seven conference games.
The Bulldogs are on the road next week for a MW series at Utah State Thursday-Saturday.
