CLOVIS, Calif. – Fresno State closed out the 2019 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships with three medals on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Freshman Patricija Roshofa earned a bronze by herself in the 400 meters while assisting on another in the 4x400 relay as the Bulldogs grabbed a silver. Varvara Klyuchnikova also captured silver in the high jump.
Klyuchnikova's second-place finish was her top finish at the conference meet since joining Fresno State in 2018. The senior's top clearance of the day came at 1.71m/5-7.25. Despite a tie for the second spot, she finished ahead on misses after clearing each of the previous three heights on her first attempt.
After dropping a personal best to advance to the finals, Roshofa finished third in the 400 with a time of 54.84. For the second straight championship this year, the Bulldogs finished third and fourth in the event. To close the night, the two Bulldogs joined Divina Henry and Jestena Mattson in the 4x400 relay. The quartet clocked a season-best time of 3:37.73 to finish second behind San Diego State.
Junior Tijana Antic just missed medaling in the triple jump, finishing fourth through a tiebreaker after a recording a top mark of 12.28m/40-3.5 on her second attempt of the afternoon. Fellow junior teammate Breanna Covington finished right behind her in fifth at 11.99m/39-4. On the men's side of the triple jump, junior Jeremy Shumaker hit a personal-best mark of 13.79m/45-3 to place eighth overall.
Also in the field, pole vaulter Shane Atkinson took seventh. The senior's top clearance of the day came at 4.61m/15-1.5. For the women, Latia Saunders placed eighth in the javelin with her best throw registering 39.30m/128-11.
