'Dogs ready for NCAA West Preliminary Round

FRESNO, Calif. – Members of the Fresno State track and field team will be in action this week at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California on May 23-25, at Hornet Stadium. The Bulldogs will have one individual and one relay team set to compete for a spot in the NCAA Championships, set for June 5-8 in Austin, Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Varvara Klyuchnikova – Senior – High Jump
- Enters the West Preliminary Round ranked No. 35 (1.75m/5'-8-.75")
- Holds No. 3 mark in program history (1.78m/5'-10")
4x400 Relay – Maja Pogorevc, Divina Henry, Jestena Mattson, Patricija Roshofa Â
- Enters the West Preliminary Round ranked No. 18 (3:37.73)
- Set time at the Mountain West Championships on May 11

THURSDAY (May 23)Â
3:30 p.m. – Varvara Klyuchnikova (High Jump, First Round)
48 athletes. Top 12 marks advance to Austin.
SATURDAY (May 25)
9:25 p.m. – 4x400 Relay (4x400, Quarterfinal)
3 heats. 24 teams. Advance top 3 from each heat, plus next 3 fastest times advance to Austin.

Athletes who rank among the top-48 in their respective event in the west region earn berths into the NCAA West Preliminary Round. The best 24 relay times also advance to NCAA Prelims. Athletes finishing with the top-12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas June 5-8. The same standard is used for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, which is being held in Jacksonville, Florida.
