The Diamond 'Dogs wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with a 11-4 win at UNLV.
Fresno State (35-14-1, 20-8-1 MW) won its 10th straight road game and completed its third-straight Mountain West road series sweep with the victory. Tallying double-digit runs for a second-straight game and the 11th time this season, the Bulldogs tallied 13 hits as a team for the 'Dogs ninth win in their last 10 games.
Leading the way from the plate in the contest was junior catcher Carter Bins who tied his career-high with three hits, scored two runs and drove in a RBI. A trio of three other Bulldogs notched two hits apiece while redshirt senior third baseman McCarthy Tatum smacked his team-leading 11th home run of the season.
On the mound, sophomore left-hander Nikoh Mitchell earned his third win of the campaign throwing five innings allowing six hits, two earned runs, no walks and six strikeouts.
Sophomore right-hander Jamison Hill came on for 1.2 innings of relief followed by 1.1 innings from right-hander Oscar Carvajal and southpaw Jaime Arias worked the ninth inning.
How It Happened
Scoring multiple runs in the first inning for the fourth-straight game, Tatum got the scoring started early for the Bulldogs launching a three-run home run to left field (watch) to give the 'Dogs a quick 3-0 lead.
A pair of two-out singles by UNLV (27-27, 14-16 MW) and a Bulldog outfield fielding error put two runners in scoring position for the Rebels, but the southpaw was able to escape the scoring threat with a strikeout of right fielder Max Smith (watch).
The 'Dogs kept the scoring going with a four-run third inning scoring one run on a RBI fielder's choice by second baseman Nolan Dempsey and added another run on a RBI single to right field by designated hitter Emilio Nogales (watch) pushing the lead to 5-0.
First baseman Zach Presno continued the big inning with a two-run RBI double to right-center (watch) that extended the 'Dogs lead to 7-0.
The Rebels broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning taking advantage of Dempsey losing a popup into the sunlight to score one run on a double and added another run on a wild pitch by Mitchell.
The Bulldogs added their second four-run inning in the seventh to seal the win. Nate Thimjon got the scoring started with a RBI single (watch) followed by a two-run RBI single up the middle by center fielder Zach Ashford (watch) that pushed the 'Dogs into double-digits. The scoring was rounded out by a RBI single to right field by Bins for his third hit of the game.
UNLV tacked on two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but were only able to get one hit in the final two innings.
