SACRAMENTO – The Fresno State women's soccer team wrapped up preseason with a 2-1 overtime victory over Sacramento State in an exhibition match, Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. Senior Melissa Ellis scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute to propel the Bulldogs to victory.
"We are happy about the spirit we started and ultimately finished the game with," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "We had some things to work through in the second half, but overall it was another great learning experience for this group and to experience an overtime scenario may prove invaluable in the coming weeks as well. Everyone that was fully healthy got minutes, so we have another good basis for future selections as well."
Ele Avery, Lorena Montanes, Emma Chivers, Robyn McCarthy, Mariona Segales, Tori Nicolo, Megan Amick, Shantay Tamez, Bailee Kern, and Audrey Reyna chalked the start for the Bulldogs, with Milena Zink in goal.

Sophomore Lorena Montanes found the back of the net for the first time as a Bulldog in the 17th minute, to give the 'Dogs a 1-0 advantage over the Hornets.

SECOND HALF
Sacramento State knotted the match 1-1 when Samantha Craig scored in the 62nd minute. The Hornets held the momentum on offense, but the 'Dogs played a strong defense to send the match into overtime.

Alex Best subbed in during the 82nd minute, playing goalkeeper for Fresno State for the remainder of the game.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first overtime period. Fresno State outshot Sacramento State, 2-0 and owned a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Hornet goalie chalked a save to send the game into double overtime.
