'Dogs open 2020 season in San Diego

FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State's men's tennis team is set to begin its 2020 campaign on Saturday with its season opener at No. 24 San Diego. The match is set to start at 12 p.m. PT at USD's Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.Â
The defending Mountain West champions are coming off of a solid fall tournament season and are led by reigning conference player of the year, Zdenek Derkas who sits No. 124 in the ITA rankings.

SCOUTING THE TOREROS
USD is coming off a very successful season in which they finished with an 8-1 record in West Coast Conference play, and 21-5 overall. As the first dual match for USD, the Toreros are led by senior Gui Osorio, who paced the team during the fall in wins, and ranks No. 30 individually in the country. Gui is the twin brother of Bulldog senior Henrique Osorio.
Last time out: USD's last outing featured four Torero players competing in the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. The group was highlighted by Junior August Holmgren who claimed three victories and a round of 16 appearance.Â
Series history: San Diego holds a 4-2 record all-time against Fresno State, but the Bulldogs claimed wins against USD in both 2007 and 2010. The series dates back to 2005 with Bulldogs winning each of their matchups in Fresno.
