SAN DIEGO -- The Fresno State men's tennis team fell to 24th-ranked San Diego in their season opener, 4-3, on Saturday in San Diego at Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.

Doubles
Cagatay Soke and Johannes Seeman lined up for the Bulldogs at the No. 1 spot, Zdenek Derkas and Angus Bradshaw at No. 2, and Alexey Alschev and Henrique Osorio for the No. 3 position.

The Bulldogs won the point with a No. 1 spot win by Seeman and Soke, and a win at No. 3 from Alschev and Osorio.

Singles
Although Fresno State won the doubles competition the Toreros took four matches in singles play to secure their victory.

The Bulldogs won matches at the No. 5 and 6 spot, securing wins from seniors Cagatay Soke in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, and Henrique Osorio in three sets 0-6, 6-1, 6-0.

USD won the top four singles matches to secure the win over the Bulldogs. The first win came with the Toreros ace August Holmgren defeating Fresno State's Zdenek Derkas in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 at the No. 1 spot. The Bulldogs then dropped matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot, with Angus Bradshaw losing 0-6, 7-5, 4-6, and Johannes Seeman dropping two quick sets 1-6, 0-6.

The Toreros clinched the dual match with a No. 4 spot win against Bulldog Alexey Alschev.

Fresno State heads to Gainesville, Florida next weekend to compete in in the 2020 ITA Kick-Off Classic. The Bulldogs will face the South Florida, the No. 2 seed in the region, at 8 a.m. PT.
