'Dogs drop first match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend, 4-2 to South Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Fresno State men's tennis team fell to USF, 4-2, in its first match of ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday morning in Linder Stadium on the campus of University of Florida.
The Bulldogs will take on Temple in the tournament's consolation match scheduled for Sunday at 7 a.m. PT.
Doubles
Fresno State kept the same lineup as their previous dual against San Diego for the doubles matches with Cagatay Soke and Johannes Seeman at No. 1, Zdenek Derkas and Angus Bradshaw No. 2 and Henrique Osorio with Alexey Aleschev for the No. 3 spot.
Soke and Seeman got the Bulldogs their only win at the No. 1 spot, but they went on to lose the point.
Singles
Fresno State won two matches in singles play but with a point from doubles, it only took USF three wins to secure the match.
The Bulldogs wins came at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots with Seeman (6-4, 6-2) and Aleschev (6-1, 6-3) winning in straight sets.
The first came at the No. 1 spot where Fresno State's No. 124-ranked Zdenek Derkas fell to the Bulls No. 121-ranked Chase Ferguson. With Aleschev and Seeman's wins coming first and third, the Bulldogs managed to remain level in the dual in 2-2 with three points still up for grabs. But with another win at the No. 5 spot from the Bulls, USF was able to seal the match at the No.2 spot for a 4-2 win.
