Bulldog BonesĀ Ā Ā
Scouting Wyoming
Averaging 84.2 points per game thus far, the Bulldogs' offense is scoring 8.1 points better than a year ago when they posted a second-highest season in program history (76.1). Playing solely against Division I opposition, Fresno State has put up at least 90 points in half of its games.
- Enter this season, Jaime White's teams have recorded at least 90 points in a game 6 times with three of those coming in 2019-20.
- Against its two West Coast Conference opponents (Saint Mary's, San Francisco), Fresno State posted back-to-back 90-point games. It was the first time a Fresno State team has done that since the opening of the 2005-06 season.
Twin 'DogsĀ Ā Ā
Throughout the early part of the season, the Bulldogs have been led in the scoring column by twins Haley Cavinder (19.0 ppg) and Hanna Cavinder (19.2 ppg) who rank third and fourth in the MW. The two have combined to score at least 38 points in four the team's six games, helping the 'Dogs to a 3-1 record in those contests. The two have combined to go for 40-plus on three occasions.
- Fresno State is 0-2 when the duo scores under 35 points.
Attack mode engagedĀ Ā Ā
One of six returning All-Mountain West players from a season ago, Hanna Cavinder was the odd one out on this year's five-member preseason team and she has been in attack mode since the start of the season to prove that it was a mistake. The sophomore leads the MW in scoring at 19.2 points per game (54th in NCAA).
- Cavinder has led the team in scoring in four of its six games, posting at least 20 three times.
- Cavinder leads the MW in shooting percentage at 55.4 percent (46-of-83).
- During the second game of the season, the sophomore outscored Lamar in the first half, scoring 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting while the Cardinals were 8-of-31 for 18 points.
Finding focusĀ Ā Ā
A year after shooting just 68.1 percent from the free throw line, Haley Cavinder has not only been getting to the line at higher rate but the sophomore also has increased her percentage by nearly 20 percent, shooting 85.3 percent.
- Cavinder leads the league in free throws made free throws with 29.
- Cavinder has taken 34 attempts this season, 5.67 attempts per game compared to 2.25 attempts per game last year.Ā
The trioĀ Ā Ā
Like they did a year ago, the trio of Haley Cavinder, Hanna Cavinder and Maddi Utti were 1, 2, 3 in the scoring column for the Bulldogs during the opening four games of the season, accounting for 54.6 points per game.
- A year ago, they were one of only two trios in the country to have all three players average at least 15 points per game. The other trio was Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu, Satou Sabally and Ruthy Hebard who went No. 1, 2 and 8 respectively in the 2020 WNBA Draft.
- Fresno State was the only team in the nation to have three players score 500 points (Haley Cavinder - 512, Maddi Utti - 509, Hanna Cavinder - 502).
- Utti missed Game 5 and 6 of the season.
It's actually a big fourĀ Ā Ā
When Aly Gamez joins the double-digit party with the trio like she did versus Lamar, the Bulldogs' win probably has has gone up dramatically. Fresno State has lost just once when during the last two seasons when all four players have been in double figures.
- The 'Dogs are 10-1 since the start of the 2019-20 season when Gamez, Utti and the Cavinders each score at least 10 points.Ā
New face from GeorgiaĀ Ā Ā
How'd the 'Dogs get a player to come all the across the country? A former player turned coach. LaToya Brown, who played at Fresno State for two seasons from 2008-2009, helped the Bulldogs land one of their latest players. Keely Brown was a star at Luella High School under the former Bulldog's tutelage. Choosing to follow in her coach's footsteps, Keely has quickly started to produce for the Bulldogs.
- The freshman has been the Bulldogs' most consistent player off of the bench averaging 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 steal in 18.7 minutes per game. She is shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from 3.
- Brown scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting against Saint Mary's.
Breaking outĀ Ā Ā
Entering the Bulldogs' contest at San Francisco (Dec. 13), Yanina Todorova had played 40 minutes and totaled 17 points, one rebound and one assist. With the 'Dogs needing a spark, JC transfer provided it, scoring 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting, 4-of-6 from 3, and grabbing six boards and dishing out three assists in 32 minutes.
