Bulldogs Selected Second in Mountain West Preseason Coaches Poll
After winning both the regular season and tournament titles a year ago, the Fresno State baseball team was picked to finish second in the Mountain West preseason poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.Â
The Bulldogs garnered two first-place votes and tallied 42 points overall falling four points shy of first-place San Diego State.Â
The Aztecs picked up 46 points and four first-place votes while Nevada got two first-place votes and 38 points to come in third. UNLV was fourth followed by New Mexico in fifth, Air Force and San Jose State tied for sixth and newcomer Boise State in eighth.

Arias & Carvajal selected to Mountain West Preseason All-Conference Team
A First-Team All-Mountain West selection as a sophomore, Arias earned Third-Team Collegiate Baseball All-American honors after converting 12 saves and posting a 3.28 ERA in 28 appearances on the mound for the Bulldogs in 2019. In 46.2 innings of work, the Woodland, Calif., native struck out 59 while only issuing 14 walks and held opponents to a .227 average from the plate.
Carvajal was equally as dominant as Arias in 2019 as the redshirt sophomore posted a 4-0 record with a 2.68 ERA. Tossing 40.1 innings, the Cerritos, Calif., native struck out 48 and walked only 10 as he went on to be a 32nd round selection of the Houston Astros in the 2019 MLB Draft, but elected to return to school this season.
Bulldogs look to extend Season-Opening Winning Streaks
Fresno State has won its last 11 season-openers dating back to 2009. The 'Dogs have also won their last 11 home-openers over that time frame. The 'Dogs opened 2019 with 6-3 win at home over Utah Valley as it was Coach Batesole's 800th career victory.

A look at the UC Irvine Anteaters
UC Irvine enters the 2020 season picked to finish fifth in the nine-team Big West and are coming off a 37-17 season in 2019 that saw the Anteaters tie for second in the conference with a 17-7 mark in Big West play. UCI, who went 16-12 on the road a season ago, return 14 letter winners and four all-conference players from a year ago in junior pitcher Trenton Denholm, infielder Adrian Damla and outfielders Mike Peabody and Jake Palmer.
Denholm, named a Preseason All-American by D1Baseball, NCBWA and Perfect Game, returns to the starting rotation after posting a 9-4 record with a 1.81 ERA in 99.2 innings in 2019 striking out 93 and walking only 20. Offensively, Peabody returns after hitting .312 in 50 games and collected 54 hits, 11 doubles, 35 runs scored and 28 RBI. Palmer hit .307 with 47 hits, 43 runs scored and 22 RBI in 43 games.

With eight of the nine Big West opponents in the state of California, in addition to Hawai'i, the 'Dogs have a long history with foes from the Big West.
Having played seven of the nine within the last two years, the Diamond 'Dogs are very familiar with the Big West with winning records against eight of the teams and a 472-314 (60.1 pct.) all-time record.

New 'Dogs in action
12 Bulldogs, including seven true freshman, will enter their first years at Fresno State this spring while four 'Dogs are coming off redshirt seasons in infielder Nick Berry, catcher Zach Morgan, outfielder Ivan Luna and pitcher Julian Sotelo.
The newest Diamond 'Dogs feature five infielders, including junior college transfers Mason Grotto, Nicholas Israel and Jake Gentry, and true freshman Andrew Kachel and Blake Wink along with six pitchers and true freshman catcher Cole Andavolgyi.
The pitchers include a pair of Division I transfers in junior Nico O'Donnell from Texas and Raul Salazar from Pepperdine. In addition, freshman Jake Harrell, Alex Kendrick, Cooper Bergman and Will Springer round out the newest 'Dogs on the mound.
Batesole closing in on second all-time in wins at Fresno State
Head coach Mike Batesole, entering his 18th season at the helm of the Bulldogs this season, has won 583 games at Fresno State and sits only 17 wins shy of 600 and 18 away from passing legendary Pete Beiden for second on the all-time wins list at Fresno State as Beiden won 600 games in his 21 seasons as a Bulldog.
Familiar face returns to the coaching staff
Former Diamond 'Dog pitcher Greg Gonzalez was added to the Bulldog coaching staff this fall.
A former Diamond 'Dog in 2010-11, Gonzalez comes to Fresno State after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Santa Clara of the West Coast Conference helping the Broncos to 38 wins, including 26 in 2018 and a sixth-place finish in the WCC.
Accumulating a 19-3 record on the mound over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Gonzalez earned All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) accolades in both years while also throwing a no-hitter at Hawai'i on April 10, 2010. He earned WAC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2011 going 11-1 with a 1.79 ERA in 16 starts earning All-American honors while being named a Golden Spikes semifinalist.

New 'Dogs in action
12 Bulldogs, including seven true freshman, will enter their first years at Fresno State this spring while four 'Dogs are coming off redshirt seasons in infielder Nick Berry, catcher Zach Morgan, outfielder Ivan Luna and pitcher Julian Sotelo.
The newest Diamond 'Dogs feature five infielders, including junior college transfers Mason Grotto, Nicholas Israel and Jake Gentry, and true freshman Andrew Kachel and Blake Wink along with six pitchers and true freshman catcher Cole Andavolgyi.
The pitchers include a pair of Division I transfers in junior Nico O'Donnell from Texas and Raul Salazar from Pepperdine. In addition, freshman Jake Harrell, Alex Kendrick, Cooper Bergman and Will Springer round out the newest 'Dogs on the mound.
Batesole closing in on second all-time in wins at Fresno State
Head coach Mike Batesole, entering his 18th season at the helm of the Bulldogs this season, has won 583 games at Fresno State and sits only 17 wins shy of 600 and 18 away from passing legendary Pete Beiden for second on the all-time wins list at Fresno State as Beiden won 600 games in his 21 seasons as a Bulldog.
Familiar face returns to the coaching staff
Former Diamond 'Dog pitcher Greg Gonzalez was added to the Bulldog coaching staff this fall.
A former Diamond 'Dog in 2010-11, Gonzalez comes to Fresno State after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Santa Clara of the West Coast Conference helping the Broncos to 38 wins, including 26 in 2018 and a sixth-place finish in the WCC.
Accumulating a 19-3 record on the mound over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Gonzalez earned All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) accolades in both years while also throwing a no-hitter at Hawai'i on April 10, 2010. He earned WAC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2011 going 11-1 with a 1.79 ERA in 16 starts earning All-American honors while being named a Golden Spikes semifinalist.

2020 season tickets and single-game tickets on sale
Season tickets for the 2020 baseball season are on-sale now starting at just $199 for adults, and $99 for youth for the Bulldogs' 28-game home schedule. Single-game tickets are also on-sale now, starting at $10 for adults and $5 for youth, including home games vs. Washington and Stanford. Fresno State opens the 2020 season on Friday against UC Irvine.
