Seven 'Dogs earn Academic All-Big 12 honors

IRVING, Texas - Seven Fresno State wrestling student-athletes have earned Academic All-Big 12 honors with six selections on the first team and one on the second team, as announced by the conference on Thursday.
Redshirt sophomores Jeremy Trinh, Brandon Martino, Beau Colombini & Jacob Wright, redshirt junior DJ Lloren along with redshirt senior Ricky Padilla were six of 81 selections to the first team while Isaiah Perez was one of 26 student-athletes were a part of the second team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Trinh, an Oxnard, Calif., native, is a kinesiology-sports administration major and has four wins while competing at 125 pounds this season. Martino is an agricultural business major who is 10-4 on the season and sits No. 19 in the FloWrestling rankings at 174 pounds.
Colombini, who hails from Ukiah, Calif., is an agricultural business major who has tallied four wins at 157 pounds. Wright, who along with Trinh and Martino were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team a year ago, is a Dinuba native and a criminology-forensic behavorial science major who has tallied 20 wins on the season and ranks No. 14 in the Trackwrestling poll at 157 pounds.
Lloren, a Clovis native who spent his first two-plus seasons at Utah Valley, is a communications major and is 20-4 overall on the season and ranked as high as No. 15 in two national polls. Padilla earns a spot on the first team as a philosophy major who is 12-10 overall in his final season as a Bulldog.
Perez, a redshirt freshman from Turlock, is 9-8 overall on the season at 197 pounds.
