Bulldogs to host Pacific Central Valley Championship this weekend

FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State's men's tennis team is set to host the Pacific Central Valley Championship tournament this weekend. The two-day weekend tournament includes schools from around the West Coast and as far as Kansas and Texas. Ten of the 12 matches will take place at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center while the other two will be played at Copper River Country Club.
Fresno State will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, holding a 4-5 record but three of those defeats have come to teams ranked in the Top 25.
The Field
Wichita State - The Shockers enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed with a 10-4 record on the year. WSU is led by seniors Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa who hold a 12-6 and 12-7 record, respectively.

Gonzaga - Entering as the No. 2 seed, the Bulldogs hold an 8-2 record.
Hawai'i - With a 5-4 record, the Rainbow Warriors come into the tournament as the No. 4 seed. Leading the Rainbows is junior Tristan Martins who is 5-1 in singles play this season.Â
San Francisco - The Dons enter as the No. 5 seed with a 4-5 record this season, with wins over UC Irvine and Boise State.Â
Lamar - The Cardinals hold a 4-8 record as the tournaments No. 6 seed. The team is headed by junior Carlos Paton Canal who is currently 5-4 in singles play on the year.Â
Nevada - As the No. 7 seed the Wolf Pack enter the tournament 6-4 this season with wins over UC San Diego and Point Loma.
Pacific - The Tigers come in as the No. 8 seed and are 2-4 overall this season. Their two wins have come against Bellevue and Lewis and Clarke College.Â
MATCHUP TIMES
The tournament kicks off Saturday morning with the first two matches taking place at 9 a.m. PT. The first matches include No. 1-seeded Wichita State taking on No. 8-seeded Pacific, and No. 4 Hawai'i battling No. 5 San Francisco.Â
No. 3 seed Fresno State will take on No. 6 seed Lamar as soon as the first match finishes, along with No. 2 seed Gonzaga taking on No. 7 seed Nevada.Â
The winners of these matches will stay on the Fresno State campus, while the losing teams will head to the Copper River Country Club in north Fresno. Each team will play a second match on Saturday depending on their results in the opening round.
The second day of tournament play begins at 9 a.m. as well and will determine each teams' final placing.Â
