FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State football team suffered its first home loss of the season, falling 40-14 to Boise State at Bulldog Stadium on Saturday. Fresno State moves to 7-3 on the season and 4-2 in Mountain West play.

How It Happened
Boise State led 10-0 midway through the opening quarter following a touchdown that resulted from an interception. The Broncos added three more just over two minutes into the second quarter following a Bulldog three-and-out.

After forcing a turnover on downs at the Fresno State 46-yard line, the Bulldogs went 54 yards in five plays, cutting the deficit to 13-7 with 5:50 on the clock in the second through a Keric Wheatfall 10-yard reception.

With 41 seconds remaining in the half, Bronco Jonah Dalmas kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it a two-possession game at 16-7. That started a stretch of 27 unanswered points to give the visitors a 40-7 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Zane Pope added a touchdown for the Bulldogs in the final minutes.

Fresno State was shutout in the first quarter for the third time this season (Oregon, UNLV).
Fresno State was shutout in two quarters on Saturday - the first and the third. It was the first time since playing at San Jose State on Nov. 30, 2019.

"That's not how we obviously saw that going tonight, and it's simply on all of us together. It starts with me. We've got to be better, and I have to coach better and get our guys in the right mindset. I thought we did a good job defensively early on, forcing them into field goals. It gave us a chance right at the end of the half and even going into the third quarter it was a 9-point game. Offensively we just couldn't get things rolling. We'd make a play and then at some point in the drive a turnover or negative play, penalty. It's just frustrating and our guys are frustrated, they're the ones that are the most frustrated because they want to do it, they're not doing it on purpose. Just some missed opportunities there early in the game that we didn't take advantage of and all of a sudden the tone kind of goes in a certain direction. Not that they didn't keep fighting, I see that, they keep playing but got to tip your hat to them too. They came in and rose to the occasion right away, they just never flinched."
