'Dogs fall 5-2 at UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. -- The Fresno State men's tennis team wrapped up it's first round of road matches with a 5-2 loss against UC Irvine.

The Bulldogs stand at 2-2 overall on the season.

How It Happened

Doubles - The Bulldogs got off to a rough start against the Anteaters in doubles play. Their first matchup came at the No. 1 spot with the pairing of Angus Bradshaw and Aleksandr Myagkov and resulted in a 6-4 loss.

Shortly after UC Irvine clinched the doubles point against the Bulldogs at the No. 3 spot against Fresno State's pairing of Reece Falck and Alexey Aleschev, 7-5.

The 'Dogs would get a win at the No. 2 spot from the pairing of Zdenek Derkas and Dario Huber 7-6, but the Anteaters had already claimed the point.

Singles - In singles play Fresno State opened up with a win at the No. 4 spot from Bradshaw (6-0, 6-0).

However, the Bulldogs then took two straight losses, the first of which came at the No. 3 spot from Aeschev 6-3, 6-1, and the next at No. 6 from Henrique Osorio 6-3, 7-6.

Huber won at the No. 2 spot 7-6, 6-3 to keep the Bulldogs' hopes alive, but a loss from Derkas at the No. 1 spot 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(7) sealed the win for UC Irvine.

The No. 5 spot matchup was played out after the clinch and resulted in a loss for Falck 6-7(1), 7-6(6), 6-2.
