Diamond 'Dogs battle Wolf Pack [March 20-21]

FRESNO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs stay on the road traveling to Nevada this weekend.

A look at the Nevada Wolf Pack
Nevada is off to a 4-7 start to the season coming off being swept at USC last weekend. The Wolf Pack opened the season winning three of four at Cal Poly and took the series finale in their lone Mountain West series this season at UNLV winning 6-1.
Nevada is hitting .249 as a team to rank fifth in the MW and has been led by junior college transfer outfielder Dario Gomez who leads the MW with a .750 slugging percentage, ranks second in batting average (.409), has eight extra-bases hits with four doubles, one triple and three home runs and has stolen four bases.
The Wolf Pack lead the MW with 20 doubles and seven sacrifice bunts and are slugging .367 as a team.
On the mound, Nevada has a 4.69 team ERA and has held opponents to a .276 batting average. The staff has 91 strikeouts, but has allowed 48 walks and hit 19 batters. Sophomore right-hander Owen Sharts leads the team with 22 strikeouts and is 1-0 with a 2.30 ERA in 15.2 innings.

This will be the 'Dogs seventh series at Nevada as a member of the Mountain West as they look for their second series win.

Jamison Hill is tied for the lead in the Mountain West with two wins while Oscar Carvajal is tied for first in the MW in saves with two.
Presno named to Buster Posey Award Watch List
Zach Presno has been named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List on March 9 as he was one of sixty-nine catchers were nominated for the award by their schools which is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher. The list will be updated to include other candidates until May 5.

Presno is one home run shy of career home run No. 30 as he sits only one shy of entering the top 10 in program history in long balls. Presno is one of two catchers from the Mountain West named to the initial watch list joined by Jarrett Gonzales from New Mexico.
Lucky 13
Fresno State won its 13th consecutive season opener as well as its 13th straight home opener on Feb. 26 with a 13-2 win over CSU Bakersfield. It was the most runs the Bulldogs have scored in a season opener since 1987 when they scored 14 runs in a win over Cal.
