Bulldogs extend win streak to six with 5-2 over LMU

FRESNO, Calif. —The Fresno State's men's tennis team extended their winning streak to six after defeating Loyola Marymount on Sunday. The Bulldogs finished this week's homestand with four wins, completing a 4-0 week with a victory in their rematch against the Lions.
"Guys have been working hard all year in practice and it's showing," Fresno State head coach Luke Shields said. "It's showing with four solid wins this weekend against good teams, and it has a lot to do with our seniors stepping up."
Fresno State now improves to 8-2 overall, having won their last six consecutive matches.
How It Happened
Doubles
The 'Dogs had trouble early, losing two doubles matches to give up the point to Loyola Marymount. The first loss came at the No. 2 spot when the Lions' Emin Torlic and Ethan Prost defeated Fresno State's pairing of Zdenek Derkas and Dario Huber, 6-4.
The 'Dogs dropped the point when LMU's Thien Nguyen and John Bryan Otico took down Alexey Aleschev and Reece Falck at the No. 3 spot, 6-3.
Singles
In singles play, Fresno State swiftly made up for their doubles loss, with Derkas taking the first win at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-0.
Falck took the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-2, victory shortly after, and was followed by Angus Bradshaw sealing the No. 3 spot with a 7-5, 6-1 win. Bradshaw's win improves his overall singles record to 9-0 on the season.
The final three matches all went into a third set, but Aleksandr Myakgov claimed a victory at the No. 4 spot 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 to clinch the match for the 'Dogs. The final two matches were played out, and saw Huber take the No. 2 spot 6-4, 4-6 7-5, and Aleschev fall at the No. 5 spot 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10).
Up Next
The 'Dogs will head to Sacramento next weekend for the Golden Coast Tournament, taking on St. Mary's in their first match scheduled March 13 at 12 p.m. PT.
