FRESNO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs saw their six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday dropping a pair of contests against Nevada at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Fresno State (16-21, 13-14 MW) fell 9-6 in game one to Nevada (20-17, 17-9 MW) and 14-2 in seven innings in game two.
The Bulldogs collected nine hits in each game with Ryan Higgins leading the way with two hits in each game, including smacking two home runs in the first game.
Zach Morgan and Dylan Johnson each tallied a double and scored a run in the opener while Morgan collected an RBI single in the second game.
Nate Thimjon had a two-hit performance in game two with his fifth double of the season while Andrew Kachel also had two hits.
On the mound, Jamison Hill made his 10th start in game one suffering his second loss of the season throwing six innings and allowed nine hits, eight runs and struck out six. Cooper Bergman and Nik Cardinal closed out the game for the 'Dogs.
Jake Dixon made his 12th start in the second game and was tagged with his third loss going five innings, but the Wolf Pack made life tough for the Bulldog sophomore allowing 11 hits and 11 runs before giving way to Tommy Hopfe and Treven Crowley.
How It Happened
Game one saw the Wolf Pack jump out to a 9-0 lead through six-and-half innings belting a solo home run in the first, added a three-run home run in the third, four runs in the sixth and notched one more in the seventh on a wild pitch.
The 'Dogs refused to go away responding with a five-run bottom of the seventh getting started with a solo home run by Higgins (watch) to left field.
A single to right field by Ivan Luna and a ground-rule double by Morgan put a pair on base for Dylan Johnson who kept the offense moving with a two-run RBI double (watch) to right-center.
A walk to Zach Presno put runners on the corners for Emilio Nogales who drove an RBI single (watch) through the right side driving in Johnson and the scoring in the frame was completed with an RBI single by pinch-hitter Mason Grotto (watch) to make it 9-5.
Higgins kept the Bulldogs fighting to climb back into the game with his second home run in as many innings (watch) with a solo shot to left field in the eighth.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the 'Dogs would get being retired in order in the ninth to drop the opener.
The second game saw Nevada jump out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of solo home runs in the first inning before Morgan cut the Pack's lead in half with an RBI single (watch) to third base to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.
Two more runs came into score in the second for Nevada before the Wolf Pack exploded for seven runs in the fifth to take a 11-1 lead.
Higgins scored the 'Dogs final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single to left, but a three-run home run by Dillan Shrum in the sixth put Nevada up 14-2 as they would claim the 10-run rule victory holding the 'Dogs off the board in the seventh.
