'Dogs secure series win in San Diego

Fresno State (11-12, 5-3 MW) used a strong starting pitching performance from southpaw Jake Dixon and nine hits offensively to notch its second straight win.
Continuing to swing a hot bat as he has all season, Zach Morgan smacked a pair of doubles and drove in three RBIs while Andrew Kachel tallied a pair of hits as well.
Dixon earned his first win of year on the mound tossing a season-best 7.2 innings while limiting the Aztecs to six hits, two runs and struck out eight. Tommy Hopfe came on to work the final 1.1 innings striking out one.
How It Happened
The 'Dogs struck early and often on Saturday plating a pair of runs in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Hopfe and an RBI single by Kachel.
The Bulldogs kept adding to their lead in the second taking a 3-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Ben Newton.
A two-out infield single by Vinny Bologna in the third drove in Hopfe for a 4-0 lead and after the Aztecs broke through on the scoreboard with a solo home run, Morgan put the 'Dogs back up four with an RBI double down the left field line in the fourth.
The Aztecs answered back in the bottom of the frame cutting the 'Dogs lead to three with an RBI groundout from Cole Carrigg, but Morgan was not done with his big night from the plate driving in two more runs in the sixth lacing a two-out double to right-center.
A two-out RBI double by Ivan Luna in the eighth drove home Morgan and extended the 'Dogs lead to 8-2 to close out the scoring.
