'Dogs even series with 6-2 win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs used a strong pitching performance from Ixan Henderson and early offense to defeat San Diego State, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

Fresno State (22-21, 11-9 MW) evened the series with the Aztecs totaling nine hits in the contest with three doubles and a solo home run from Blake Wink, his first of the season.

Andrew Kachel and Ivan Luna each tallied two hits apiece with Luna driving in half of the 'Dogs runs with three RBIs while adding a double, run and walk.

On the mound, Henderson earned his seventh win of the season tossing 6.2 innings limiting SDSU to five hits, two runs, four walks and struck out five.

Roman Angelo picked up his second save as a Bulldog tossing the final 2.1 innings holding the Aztecs to a walk and single.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs raced out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first with a two-run RBI double down the right field line by Luna followed by an RBI double to left by Josh Lauck.

The 'Dogs extended their lead to 4-0 in the second with a leadoff home run by Wink and Luna tacked on an RBI bunt single in the fifth to push Fresno State up five runs.

With Henderson holding SDSU to only three hits over the first six innings, the Aztecs finally broke through in the seventh with a two-run RBI single by Irvin Weems to cut the 'Dogs lead to 5-2. After Henderson hit the next batter, Angelo took over with the bases loaded and two outs.

The Bakersfield native was able to get a lineout to keep the Aztecs from doing further damage with the 'Dogs adding an insurance run from Zach Morgan in the bottom of the frame for the final score of the contest.
