BOISE, ID.- Fresno State women's basketball fought hard in Boise, ultimately falling to the Broncos at ExtraMile Arena Saturday afternoon, 70-65.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State takes a slow start after Boise opened on a 7-0 start. Deajanae Harvey got the Bulldogs on the board first with a jumper outside the paint. Tamia Stricklin trailed behind to sink in a shot from downtown. Boise held Fresno for four minutes before Kylee Fox snapped the Broncos 7-0 run. Fresno State's final two shots came from the hands of Fox with a three-pointer followed by floater at the buzzer from the top of the key. Fresno State was outscored in the first quarter 16-10.Â
Big marks for Fresno State in the second quarter opening on a 7-0 run, their largest of the night. Two minutes in, Mia Jacobs lets a three-pointer rip to get the game within two. Bineta Diatta's layup in the paint sees the only tie of the day. Boise State responds quickly with their own 7-0 run, and closes the first half holding a five point lead over the 'Dogs.Â
First five minutes were on even footing, with each team getting in shots on every trip to the basket. Bulldogs' were stagnant mid-way not seeing a shot from the field until the last minute on a layup by Harvey. Harvey breaks a Bronco double-digit lead in the final two seconds to make it an eight point game.
Looking for another opportunity to even the score, Fresno State outscored the Broncos 27-24 in the final quarter. Boise State built their largest lead of the night at 12 points, three times. Bulldogs' gave the Broncos five trips to the charity line in the final two minutes. Harvey scored 12 of the last 15 points for the Bulldogs in the final two minutes of the game.
