Bulldogs fall on the road against Cougars
11/15/2025 5:18:00 PM | Women's Basketball
PROVO, Utah -Â Fresno State women's basketball (3-1) fell short of a needed second half surge to overcome BYU (4-0) at the Marriott Center on Saturday afternoon, 63-43.Â
Bulldogs see their first loss as well as on the road, sacrificing their unbeaten streak.Â
How it happenedÂ
Hedda Koehne started it all off for the Bulldogs in her first start of the season. Koehne dropped back to back buckets to get the score rolling for the 'Dogs for a solo 4-0 run. Powell's three-pointer, joined by a 2-of-2 trip by Djessira Diawara, created a four point separation from the Cougars.  Bulldogs kept the pressure on building up to a five point lead into the final minute, 17-12. Five Bulldogs got in on the scoring to start with Danae Powell leading the way, followed by Koehne, Gamble, Diawara and Indiya Clarke. BYU hit a three-pointer at the hands of Hamlin at the buzzer to sit within two, 17-15.Â
Diawara claimed the first basket after the break followed by Ava Marr, who banked in a three-pointer for another five point advantage. Clarke broke a Cougars 4-2 run with a trip to the line. Bulldogs managed to let their seven point lead slip after BYU's Gibb drained a three-pointer, 29-28. Bulldogs' missed the basket in the final four and a half minutes of the first half, allowing a 8-0 Cougar run.
Clarke held off a Cougar double-digit lead off an and-1, 39-33. Fresno State managed to cut down the lead to eight after another put back by Long. A three minute scoring drought stunted the 'Dogs in the third quarter, going 0-of-5 from the field.Â
Fresno State looked to turn it around in the second half only down by four. 'Dogs struggled offensively shooting just 24% from the field (6-25). Emilia Long held it down on the court in the second half marking seven points, two assists, three steals and two rebounds.Â
NotableÂ
Up next: Fresno State (3-1, 0-0 MW) continues their time on the road and will travel to the Pacific Northwest to visit No. 25 Washington (3-0, 0-0 B10) on Wednesday, Nov. 19 with tip-off set for 6 p.m. PT streaming live on the Big Ten Network.Â
