Bulldogs hold Wolf Pack at bay in Reno
1/17/2026 5:13:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RENO, Nev. - Fresno State women's basketball holds off Nevada's attempt at a fourth quarter comeback at Lawlor Events Center on Saturday afternoon, 54-44.Â
Bulldogs were led by Emilia Long for eighth time this season, the guard produced her sixth game this season of 20 or more points. Long shot well over 60% from the field on 10-of-16 accompanied by a pair of three-pointers, three assists and three steals. Avery Watkins set a new career-high of 12 boards.Â
How it happenedÂ
In true fashion, Long started the scoring for Fresno State, Watkins followed through with a shot from beyond the arc. Bulldogs' worked to hold Nevada stagnant from the field for over seven minutes, only receiving opportunities from the line (3-4). But a 7-0 run by the Wolf Pack to close the opening period handed them a light lead, 11-9.Â
Fresno State battled through a scoring drought until Danae Powell found the three-point shot putting the 'Dogs back within one, 13-12. Morelia Chavez made an impact for handing the Bulldogs back-to-back threes. Chavez continued her time connecting with the basket at the charity line. Fresno State continued to hold the advantage with their fourth three-pointer of the first half by Long. A 5-4 run played out the last minute and a half for the lead at half, 23-19. Fresno State dropped in four shots from beyond the arc in the first half.Â
A near even distribution of baskets opened the second half with the Wolf Pack holding a slight scoring edge, 13-12. Nevada answered to sit back within reach of the 'Dogs lead, 29-28. Fresno steadied in the final minutes with three Bulldogs making baskets to add cushion to the lead. A late bucket from Nevada closed out the period, 35-32.
Fresno State pushed back with a momentous 15-0 run before Nevada made their first field goal of the period. Long contributed 13 points on that run with Indiya Clarke on the other two. Nevada's lately timed 8-0 surge chipped at Fresno's lead but was not enough to close the cap. Bulldogs' continued to hold their double-digit lead to call game, 54-44.Â
