Bulldogs drop slugfest to Nevada, 15–12

The Bulldogs totaled 17 hits and scored in six different innings, but Nevada used a nine-run seventh inning to erase Fresno State's advantage and take control of the Mountain West contest.
With the loss, Fresno State moved to 7-10 overall and 0-2 in Mountain West play, while Nevada improved to 10-6 and 2-0 in conference action.
MIkey Boyd led the Bulldogs offensively with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in three runs and scoring three times. Ryan De La Maza added three RBIs with a pair of hits, while Jett Ruby homered and drove in two. Austin Young also collected three hits and an RBI for Fresno State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State struck quickly in the first inning when Owen Faust led off with a ground-rule double before Jett Ruby launched a two-run home run to right field to give the Bulldogs an early 2–0 lead.
The Bulldogs broke the game open in the third. Mikey Boyd crushed a two-run home run to right field, Ryan De La Maza later added an RBI single, and Austin Young drove in another run with a double as Fresno State built a 6–0 advantage.
Nevada got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but Fresno State responded immediately in the bottom half when Boyd delivered an RBI single to push the lead to 7–1.
The Wolf Pack began to chip away in the fifth with a pair of solo home runs and two additional runs to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 7–5. Fresno State answered again in the bottom of the inning when De La Maza blasted a solo home run to left field.
The Bulldogs extended the lead to 11–5 in the sixth inning. Griffen Sotomayor doubled home a run, De La Maza added a sacrifice RBI, and BJ Rodriguez scored on a Nevada error during a steal attempt.
Nevada flipped the game in the seventh inning with a massive rally. The Wolf Pack collected eight hits in the frame, highlighted by a grand slam from Jacob Waller, as Nevada scored nine runs to take a 14–11 lead.
Nevada added another run in the eighth inning to make it 15–11. Fresno State threatened late, scoring once in the ninth on an RBI single by Marcus Nolen, but the rally fell short as Nevada secured the win.
