Bulldogs close regular season, celebrate seniors at Fresno State Invitational

CLOVIS, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team celebrated senior day while closing out the Fresno State Invitational at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Bulldogs honored eight seniors on Saturday: Layla Clay, Tearra Haney, Zoe Yeast, Corey Ford, Marcus Jauregui, Guillermo Lopez, Bronson Ortlieb, and Jamarcus Phillips

Senior Tearra Haney took second in the javelin with a toss of 41.40m/135-10 on her first attempt. In the women's long jump, Liz Tarczy took second with a personal-best mark of 5.96m/19-6.75. It was just her second time competing in the long jump in her collegiate career. Matilde Guarino took third in the long jump with a mark of 5.88m/19-3.5.

In the high jump, Kamoni Reams tied his career-high with a jump of 1.96m/6-5. He took second. Tarczy tied for first on the women's side with a jump of 1.77m/5-9.75.

Jabari King won the men's long jump with a mark of 7.45m/24-5.5. It was King's second win of the season, and first since the outdoor opener.

Jamarcus Phillips took second in the discus, his highest finish of the season. He saw a throw of 49.06m/160-11 on Saturday. In the women's event, Haney finished fifth with a throw of 47.43m/155-7.

Lynee Sims took second in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 12.08m/39-7.75. It was the first time in her career that she jumped over 12 meters.

On the track, Chiara Pedol won the women's 1500m race in a time of 4:34.57. It was her first career win, in any event. Kylie Ward finished fifth in the race in 4:42.16, Rhiannon Walker was ninth in 4:44.84, Leah Mendibles was 16th in 4:50.54, Ashley Villafana Rodriguez finished 22nd in 4:56.59, and Hannah Garrity was 27th in 5:06.94.

In the men's race, Jacob Diaz finished fifth in 3:45.15, a new personal-best time and the fastest time by a male Bulldog in the race this season.

Freshman Breelyn Newsome had a new season-high in the 100m hurdles on Saturday, clocking a time of 14.22 seconds to finish sixth.

Joziah Hagedorn and Corey Ford took eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 400m dash. Hagedorn clocked a time of 49.34 while Ford had a time of 49.55 for a new personal-best. King also added a PR in the 100m dash, clocking 10.94 seconds to finish 16th.

In the women's 800m, Nayla Martin finished third in 2:09.62. It was a new personal-best and the No. 8 time in program history, securing her spot in the program's top 10 in her second event. Hannah Pacheco also had her fastest race with a time of 2:13.55 to finish sixth. In the men's race, Elijah WIlliams took second with a personal-best time of 1:50.94.
