2018 (Freshman): Mendez appeared in three games as a freshman in 2018... in his first career at-bat in the 'Dogs season opener against Michigan State, Mendez hit a walk-off single to secure a 5-4 win over the Spartans.
Prior to Fresno State: Mendez spent the 2017 season at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif.
High School: Mendez was a four-year letter winner at Saugus High School in Saugus, Calif... as a senior in 2016, Mendez hit .361 from the plate with 30 hits on the season, including 12 that went for extra-bases (eight doubles & four home runs) and added 11 RBIs and 20 runs scored... was named a 2015 Perfect Game Underclassmen Honorable Mention selection... 2015 Southwest Future All-Star Series participant... 2013 Underclassmen All-American... 2013 Newcomer of the Year... hit .359 from the plate as a freshman with 12 extra-base knocks out of his 28 hits and added 19 RBIs and 25 runs scored... finished his time in high school with a .322 batting average and a .426 on-base percentage.
Personal: Son of Ronald and Milanka Mendez... has two younger sisters, Madison and Sienna... plans to major in sociology at Fresno State... choose Fresno State because he loved the atmosphere and how the town supports sports and the school... favorite athlete growing up was Derek Jeter because he loved how he carried himself on and off the field... enjoys fishing, biking and golfing in his free time... born on April 26, 1998.
