2021 (SENIOR*): Abbs appeared in all 13 games of the season … he was a primary member of the special teams unit on field goal protection … Fresno State’s kickers were 21-of-25 on the year behind his protection… helped Fresno State to two wins over ranked opponents, both on the road. It was the first time Fresno State defeated two Top 25 opponents in a season for the first time since 2004, and the first time both wins came on the road in the 100 year history of the program.
*Utilized the additional year of eligibility approved by the NCAA in the fall of 2020. The NCAA approved a blanket waiver for all 2020 fall sports student-athletes to retain a year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2020 (R-SENIOR): Appeared in four games for the Bulldogs … played mostly on special teams … member of the field goal protection corp.
2019 (SENIOR): Appeared in three games for the Bulldogs … was the starting right guard in the Bulldogs’ season finale at San Jose State ... the Bulldog offense powered for a season-high 41 carries behind the offensive line at San Jose State ... utilized a redshirt season.
2018 (JUNIOR): Played in all 14 games and made three starts at left guard … aided an offensive line unit that helped produce 421.5 yards per game and 34.6 points per game during the season … in starts at UCLA, versus Toledo and at Nevada, the Bulldogs limited their opponent to 1.0 sacks per game while the offense was able to produce 122.0 rushing yards per game and seven touchdowns on the ground in that three game span … was also a key cog for the field goal protection team.
Prior to Fresno State: Came to Fresno State after two seasons at Fresno City College … helped the Rams go 8-3 in 2017 with a win in the State Center Bowl over Butte College … led the team to 35.5 points per game with 405.1 passing yards and 168.6 rushing yards per game.
High School: Attended Greshman HS and played guard and defensive tackle … earned a Mt. Hood Conference second-team honor on defense … was honorable mention on offense … recruited by and received offers from Colorado State, San Jose State and Northern Arizona … also played basketball at Greshman.
Personal: Born in Portland, Ore. …son of Virginia and William Abbs … favorite athlete is Joe Thomas because he is an offensive lineman who hasn’t missed a snap in his entire career … biggest athletic thrill is the time leading up to a football game because of the “calm before the storm” feeling … is a health science major at Fresno State.
