Lauren McAdam completed her fourth season as an assistant coach of the Fresno State women's soccer team under head coach Brian Zwaschka. McAdam joined Fresno State on July 24, 2013, as a goalkeeper specialist and made an immediate impact as a member of the Bulldog coaching staff.
In 2016, the Bulldogs captured their first winning record since 2013 and narrowly missed the postseason as they finished the season tied for seventh place in the Mountain West. The 'Dogs saw two All-MW selections, as junior forward Myra Delgadillo was named second-team All-MW for the second straight year and freshman forward Julia Glaser was selected for the All-Newcomer team.
Fresno State saw its best offensive output since joining the MW in 2012, scoring 28 goals and adding 22 assists. The Bulldogs' 236 shots were the second-most since 2012 and their 105 shots on goal were a top mark over the last five seasons. The 'Dogs were only shutout three times throughout the year, matching their lowest total in program history, which they also accomplished in 2007. Throughout the year, 17 different players recorded shots, nine different players scored goals and 11 different players recorded assists (most since 2012).
On the defensive side of the ball, Fresno State saw three underclassmen goalkeepers earn shutouts for the first time in program history and combined for seven shutouts throughout the season, the most for the Bulldogs since 2013 (7). Fresno State also allowed the fewest shots in program history (253).
During the season, the 'Dogs saw a home unbeaten streak of six games, their most since nine in 2010-11, and matched the program's longest winning streak of five games, something they have accomplished six times over the last 22 seasons. Fresno State finished the season on a three-game winning streak.
In 2016, three different players were named MW Player of the Week: Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann (Defensive - Oct. 3), Alex Best (Defensive - Sept. 19) and Julia Glaser (Offensive - Sept. 5).
In 2015, the Bulldogs finished ninth in the Mountain West and two student-athletes were named to the All-MW second team (Myra Delgadillo and Maria Gomez). McAdam worked with second-year goalkeeper Domenique Banta and freshmen Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann and Nicole Theroux, who combined for four shutouts. Despite adversities, the ’Dogs were in contention to make the Mountain West Championship going into their final game and played some of the top competition in the country (Duke and No. 7 North Carolina). Four of their top five offensive leaders were underclassmen and among MW members during Conference play, the Bulldogs ranked second in shots (177), third in corner kicks (55), fourth in assists (12) and sixth in goals (14) and points (40).
The `Dogs concluded the 2014 season with a 10th place Mountain West finish with a 4-16-0 overall record and 3-8-0 in conference play. During her second season at Fresno State, McAdam helped freshman goalkeeper Domenique Banta to her first weekly accolade as she was awarded Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after recording six saves against UNLV and Nevada to guide the team to its first pair of conference wins.
In her first year with the team, McAdam helped the squad to a second place finish in Mountain West with a 10-8-2 overall record and 7-2-1 record in MW play while ending the season on an eight-game unbeaten streak as they headed into the conference tournament. Under her guidance, junior goalkeeper Katie Devault ranked second in the MW with 94 saves and a .839 save percentage and was also named MW Defensive Player of the Week three consecutive weeks in a row (Oct. 7-21). McAdam's defensive leadership also helped the Bulldogs record seven shutouts in 2013.
In 2014, McAdam was announced as a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 30 Under 30 Program by the Association. In a pool of over 600 applicants, McAdam was announced as one of 30 (15 women and 15 men) who participated in the 2014-15 cohort of the NSCAA year-long education and mentorship program for a select few up-and-comers.
McAdam came to Fresno State after serving as an assistant coach at Nevada from 2010-13. At Nevada, McAdam helped transition the program into the MW in 2012, guiding the Wolf Pack to one of the team's top finishes in three years.
Prior to her time at Nevada, McAdam was a volunteer assistant coach at UCLA for two seasons. While working with the Bruins, McAdam was primarily responsible for the goalkeeping unit. UCLA made back-to-back NCAA Final Four appearances in 2008 and 2009 while McAdam was coaching.
A former goalkeeper herself, McAdam played collegiately at the University of Miami, where she finished her career ranked No. 1 at the school in career saves (307), shutouts (15) and minutes played (5,796). A very accomplished player, McAdam also set a pair of single-season records as a junior in 2006, breaking the marks for shutouts (6) and goals against average (1.29). She was named an All-ACC Academic selection in 2006 and 2007.
The Simsbury, Conn. native earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Miami in the spring of 2008.
