'Dogs open season versus Biola

Fresno State hosts Biola in a doubleheader with the men's team on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. PT. Tickets for Friday's game start at $10 with all Fresno State students, veterans and active duty-military getting free admission.
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State opens the 2016-17 season Friday as the squad hosts the Biola Eagles. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m., PT and will air on 940ESPN Radio.Â
Tickets for Friday's game start at $10 with all Fresno State students, veterans and active duty-military getting free admission. Fans arriving early for the men's game are asked to sit in the general admission sections until the conclusion of the women's game. Fans who have tickets for the women's game and would like to stay for the men's game are asked to sit behind the west basket. Parking is $10 during the doubleheader.

Bulldog Bites
• Head Coach Jaime White enters her third season at the helm of the Fresno State women's basketball program. She is joined on the bench by Associate Head Coach Mandi Carver who was promoted during the offseason. Laura Dinkins returns for her third seasons as an assistant coach and Tom Perkins was promoted to assistant coach during the summer. Bobby Ratterree (Director of Basketball Operations) and Stephanie Lee (Graduate Assistant) are new additions to the staff for the 2016-17 season.  Â
• The Bulldogs are coming off of a 22-12 season with in which they reached the Mountain West Championship game and earned a trip to the Women's National Invitation Tournament.
• The selection to the postseason tournament was Fresno State's ninth consecutive postseason appearance. With last season's first round win over Santa Clara, it marked the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have won a postseason game in back-to-back seasons.
• Fresno State returns two of its five starters last season. Of the team's eight returners from the 2015-16 season, only two, Bego Faz Davalos and Breanne Knishka saw significant minutes a season ago.Â
• Of the Bulldogs' top seven players in scoring in 2015-16, the 'Dogs lost 42.8 points of its 62.8 points per game.Â
• The team welcomed six newcomers this year – freshmen Kristina Cavey, Sharae Chalmers, Megan Nilsson, Kateline Noyer, Saraya Smith and sophomore transfer Jordanna Porter (will sit out in accordance with NCAA transfer rules).Â
• Tory Jacobs, who sat out last season after transferring from Minnesota, is now eligible and will help bolster a young Bulldog backcourt.
• After not having a Bulldog on the Mountain West All-Freshman Team in its first two seasons in the conference, Fresno State had selections on both the 2015 and 2016 teams (Bego Faz Davalos, 2015; Breanne Knishka, 2016).
• Faz Davalos, who has led the MW in blocks during her first two seasons on the court, had a breakout sophomore campaign as the led the NCAA blocks (136) and blocks per game (4.0) on her way to being named MW Defensive Player of the Year, the third Bulldog to earn the award in the team's four seasons in the league.
• The Bulldog center proved last year that she isn't one-stat player though, Faz Davalos led Fresno State in total points (431), points per game (12.7), offensive rebounds (107), defensive rebounds (211), total rebounds (318) rebounds per game (9.4), blocks (136) and steals (45) finishing second on the team in assists with 85.

• This is the first-ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Eagles.
A Look at Biola
• The NAIA program is 2-1 this year with wins over Bethesda and La Sierra after posting a 14-17 record during the 2015-16 season.
• The Eagles scored 107 points in their last outing against La Sierra.
• DeMoria White paces Biola's offense as she is averaging 20.3 points per game.
• Joclyn Kirton is the Eagles' top inside threat, posting 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

Opening Up Against the State of CaliforniaÂ
• Dating back to the 1996-97 season, Fresno State is 8-4 when opening up the season against teams in the state of California.
• Three of the four losses have come against current Pac-12 schools (Cal, Stanford, USC), two of which were ranked in the Top 25 at the time.
One the best in the Mountain West
• Two years ago, Bego Faz Davalos was named to the MW All-Freshman Team after breaking three conference block records.
• Last season, Faz Davalos took another step forward as she became the program's third MW Defensive Player in Year in the school's four years in the league as she broke all three of her conference block records, but also broke the record for overall blocks in a season. Along with the Defensive Player of the Year honor, she also earned a spot on the All-MW Team.
• In October, she was selected as one of five players to the preseason All-MW team.
