Bulldog Bones
• Junior Bego Faz Davalos ranks in the top 15 in the NCAA in seven stat categories. The 6-foot-3 center ranks fourth in the country in blocks per game (3.6) and total blocks (86), third in triple-doubles (1) sixth in double-doubles (16), 11th in rebounds per game (11.1) and 12th in defensive rebounds per game (7) and in total rebounds (267). She also ranks 38th in field-goal percentage (53.2).
• Faz Davalos' 16 double-doubles is two more than previous single-season program record which she set during the 2015-16 season, and she is currently four shy of tying the Mountain West record.
• Faz Davalos is one of six players in the NCAA to average at least 14 points and 11 rebounds.
• Faz Davalos leads the Bulldogs in points (14.7), rebounds (11.1) and blocks (3.6). She is second in steals (1.5) and assists (2.1).
• Sophomore Candice White is first on the team in points (14.7) and steals (1.5), and is second in rebounds (5.5).
• In the Bulldogs seven conference wins, the team has outscored opponents by 94 points during the second half and 59 during just the third quarter.
• Fresno State is eighth nationally in least committed fouls. The 'Dogs commit just 13.3 personal fouls per game.
• On Feb. 9 Bego Faz Davalos and Candice White were announced as CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 selections. They were two of the district team's six selections and two of 43 nationally to make all-district teams.
• Bego Faz Davalos is closing in on becoming the 23rd player in Fresno State history to join the 1,000-point club. The junior is 50 points shy of 1,000 points.
Â
Series history with San José State
• Fresno State holds a 56-20 edge over San José State in the all-time series.
• The Bulldogs are 4-3 against the Spartans since the two teams joined the Mountain West.
• Last year's win in San José, Calif., was the 'Dogs first at The Event Center since March 3, 2011.
• Since having its 20-game winning streak against the Spartans snapped on Feb. 25, 2012, the Bulldogs have gone 4-4 against SJSU.
Â
A look at San José State
• San José State enters Wednesday's game with an 8-16 overall record.
• The Spartans are 5-7 in conference play after dropping five of its last seven games.
• Offensively, the Spartans rank first in scoring offense in the Mountain West at 71.0 points per game, but defensively are 11th as they allow 79.4.
• SJSU averages 8.0 made 3-pointers per game which ranks first in the league.
• Last year's Mountain West Newcomer of the Year, Dezz Ramos is back for her senior year and paces the Spartans' offense as she leads the league with 21.9 points per game. She is also dishing out 5.1 assists per game.
• Ramos has posted 13 20-point games and six 30-point games this season.
• In conference play, Ramos' average has increased to 24.8 points per game.
• Jasmine Smith is averaging a team-high 8.3 points per game and is second in scoring at 11.6 points per game.
Â
Dynamic duo
• Fresno State's offense has been led this year by the duo of junior Bego Faz Davalos and sophomore Candice White. The two are averaging a combined 29.4 points per game, nearly half of the team's total offense.
• The two rank as the third-highest scoring duo in the Mountain West behind San Jose State's Dezz Ramos and Jasmine Smith (33.5) and New Mexico's Cherise Beynon and Richelle Van Der Keijl (30.1).
• The Bulldogs are 13-5 on the year when both score in double figures, but are 1-4 when one or both does not hit the mark.
Â
Chasing 60
• With the strength of Jaime White's teams being on the defensive side of the ball, a benchmark for its offense has been to score 60 points. Under White, Fresno State has won 73.2 percent of those games (41-15). The Bulldogs' record when scoring between 60-69 points is 26-12.
• This season, the 'Dogs are 12-2 when scoring more than 60 points, with their losses coming by two points or less.
Â
Holding teams down
• The Bulldogs have held its opponents to 60 points or less in 11 of its 14 wins.
• Only three teams have scored more than 70 points against the 'Dogs this season (Washington, 85; New Mexico 80; San Jose State 74). Fresno State allowed four teams to score at least 80 points during the 2015-16 season. All four games resulted in losses. Washington scored the most of any Bulldog opponent that season (89).
Â
Breaking 3-point curse
• During the past two seasons, Fresno State has struggled in the win column when making six or more 3-pointers. The Bulldogs' record in such games during the first two seasons under Jaime White was 10-11.
• The 'Dogs have seemingly reversed the trend this year by holding a 8-3 record when knocking down at least six 3's with both losses coming on the road in their last two games.
Â
Erasing deficits
• Heading into its last game of nonconference play, Fresno State was 0-3 when trailing at the half. The Bulldogs reversed that trend at Weber State, turning a six-point halftime deficit into a three-point win.
• Fresno State is 6-5 when trailing at the half since the Weber State contest and is 18-21 under Jaime White.
• Since the start of conference play, Fresno State has outscored its opponents by 54 points in the third quarter (+4.5) and is plus-71 in the second half.
• Against Nevada (Jan. 21), Fresno State outscored the Wolf Pack by 22 in the second half, its largest margin in a second half versus a Division I opponent since Washington State on Nov. 30, 2012 (+27).
Â
Same player, new year
• It may be another year but junior Bego Faz Davalos hadn't seen a drop off from last year. Through 24 games, the center's numbers are on par from last season as she is averaging 14.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals.
• Faz Davalos leads the Bulldogs in points, rebounds, blocks and assists, and is second in steals.
• She has recorded at least four blocked shots in 10 games this season.
Â
Doubling up
• She ranks third nationally in double-doubles with 16 and is second in program history with 32.
• With 16 double-doubles this season, she set a new single-season program record, breaking her own which she set during the 2015-16 season with 14.
• Faz Davalos is nearing the Mountain West single-season record which sits at 20 by Linda Froehlich of UNLV (1999-2000).
Â
Time to shine
• After playing in 11 games as a freshman, and logging 6.3 minutes per game, Candice White leads team in minutes (33.2) and points (14.7), and is second in rebounds (5.5).
• The sophomore also paces the team in steals (1.6) and has swiped three or more steals in seven games, including a career-high five against CSU Dominguez Hills.
• She has reached double figures in scoring in 20 of 24 games.
• White has recorded three of the team's 10 20-point scoring performances this season, including a career-high 25 points at Nevada and 21-point games versus UC Irvine and CSU Dominguez Hills.
• The 25-point effort (9-of-13) was the most points by a Bulldog since Alex Sheedy scored 25 points against Wyoming on Feb. 25, 2015.
• In conference, White ranks second in free-throw percentage (.880), sixth in 3-point percentage (.380), 3-point field goals made per game (1.9) and scoring (14.7), seventh in minutes played (33.2), eighth in steals (1.5) and ninth in field-goal percentage (.464).
Â
Taking charity
• Prior to missing three free throws versus CSU Dominguez Hills, sophomore Candice White ranked fourth nationally in free-throw percentage. She is currently No. 14 at 88.0 percent (73-of-83).
• White opened the season with 18 consecutive free throws which is the most on record to start a season by a Bulldog dating back to the 1983-84 season. Records are not available prior to the 1983-84 season.
• Still with six regular-season games remaining, in site for White is Jessie Farias' single-season school record for free-throw percentage which stands at 86.5 percent.
• Long term is Staci Oddo's career record at 81.7 percent (min. 160 attempts). White currently sits at 86.8 percent with just over half of the minimum required attempts.
Â
Winning away from home
• In a stark contrast to previous years, Fresno State has found itself better winning percentage away from home this season. The Bulldogs have posted a 7-4 record this season when playing outside of Fresno, with its four losses coming to then-No. 13 Washington, Wyoming, Colorado State and Boise State.
• The Bulldogs' six losses at home this season is the most since the opening of the Save Mart Center in 2003.
