Fresno State (14-10) had seven players with multi-hit games as senior outfielder Jake Stone had a career-high four hits, smacking his sixth double of the season and scored two runs and drove two RBIs. Jesse Medrano had a pair of doubles and scored two runs, Austin Guibor, Aaron Arruda, Jared Akins, Zach Ashford and Korby Batesole all had two hits apiece. Arruda hit a three-run home run for his fifth long ball of the season, while Ashford hit his first career home run.
Cal Poly (8-16) had 13 hits in the contest as four different players had multi-hit contests as left fielder Josh George had a double and an RBI.
The 'Dogs got the scoring started right off the bat with a three-run bottom of the first as senior second baseman Scott Silva got the offense going with a two-out single through the left side. Stone followed with a single through the right side that pushed Silva to third. Arruda kept the hitting going by beating out an infield single to shortstop to drive in Silva for the 'Dogs first run. Akins followed with a single through the right side to plate Stone and move Arruda to third.
A long eight-pitch battle between Ashford and Cal Poly pitcher Connor Redmond went the way of the Bulldog slugger as he drew a walk with ball four getting away from CP catcher Nick Meyer allowing Arruda to score and put the 'Dogs up 3-0.
Cal Poly got a run back in the top of the third with a single up the middle by Meyer, but that was close as the Bulldogs would allow the Mustangs as the 'Dogs exploded for a seven-run bottom of the fourth for its season-high in runs in a single inning.
Batesole led off with an infield single off Cal Poly Austin Dondanville which was followed by a double to right center by Medrano to put runners at second and third for Guibor. The senior outfielder hit his fourth double of the season to left center knocking in the pair to put the 'Dogs up 5-1. Silva followed reaching base on an error by the Mustang third baseman Jack Kuzma putting runners at the corners for Stone who continued his solid night with a single through the left side driving in Guibor and moving Silva to second.
With Dondanville coming on in relief of Kyle Smith, Arruda greeted the new pitcher with a three-run home run to left field to put the Bulldogs up 9-1. The high-scoring inning was capped off by a solo home run to right center by Zach Ashford for his first career round tripper to give the 'Dogs a 10-1 lead.Â
Cal Poly continued to chip away at the 'Dogs lead with a three-run top of the fifth inning off reliever Dominic Topoozzian. An RBI single down the left field line by center fielder Alex McKenna brought in one run and the Mustangs added another one on a double to right center by left fielder Josh George before making it a 10-4 contest with a sacrifice fly by Meyer.
An RBI double down the left field line by Stone scored Medrano in the fifth and a sacrifice fly by Medrano in the sixth scored Ashford to give the 'Dogs a 12-4 lead.
A three-run top of the eighth for Cal Poly cut the 'Dogs lead to 12-7 as the Mustangs added a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to make it a 12-8 contest as Cal Poly loaded the bases with the potential tying run coming to the plate, but freshman relief pitcher Ryan Jensen was able to get McKenna to ground out to shortstop to preserve the win.
The 'Dogs return to action on Friday evening when they travel to New Mexico (16-9, 9-0 MW) for a three-game weekend series with the Lobos.

On the 'Dogs new-look lineup...
"I like what the seniors are doing up at the top of the lineup. I like how they're taking patient at-bats and they're taking ownership of it. They've done an outstanding job."
On today's offense...
"We finished things. We don't give up after two outs, we finish every opportunity to get hits and score runs. It was good to see Isaiah Davis get out there and pump out his work. He does a lot of intersquads during the week and it was good to see him put it to work on the real bump."
On going in to UNM with this pace going...
"Every season has its turning point. I'm not sure if Sunday was it for us or not, but at this point it's got a chance to be one of those significant moments for us where the right guys took over at the right time, but we'll know for sure in a couple of months."
