Diamond 'Dogs in the Pros: Summer Update

Reaching the halfway point of the MLB season and the calendar moving to July with all four Bulldogs from 2018 getting their professional careers started, let's take a look at how the 25 former Diamond 'Dogs in the major/minor leagues are doing so this summer.
Doug Fister, Pitcher, Texas Rangers, 10th year in MLB, first with Rangers
After spending the 2017 season with the Boston Red Sox, Fister joined his sixth MLB ball club in November when he signed with the Texas Rangers.
Fister, who finished 5-9 with the Red Sox last season, has gotten off to a slow start with his new club posting a 1-7 record with a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts.
The Merced native has 40 strikeouts in 66.0 innings of work and picked up his lone win in his Ranger debut on March 30 tossing five innings while limiting the defending World Series champion Houston Astros to four hits, one earned run, three walks and three strikeouts in a 5-1 victory.
Fister tossed a season-high seven shutout innings against the Chicago White Sox on May 17 holding Chicago to six hits, no walks and recorded six strikeouts and after three more starts, was placed on the 60-day disabled list on June 17 with a knee injury.
Aaron Judge, Outfielder, New York Yankees, second official year in MLB/Yankees
After winning the 2017 American League Rookie of the Year and playing in 155 games last season finishing while hitting 52 home runs, Judge has picked right back up this season playing in 79 games for the Yankees hitting .279 from the plate while ranking in the top 10 in the AL in walks (2nd, 57), home runs (4th, 22), on-base percentage (5th, .396), slugging percentage (6th, .565) & RBIs (T-7th, 55).
The Linden, Calif., native has 23 multi-hit games this season, including six three-hit performances, most recently on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN against the Red Sox with a home run and three runs. In addition, Judge has scored multiple runs in 15 games while driving in multiple runs in 13 contests.
The Yankees, who are currently 54-27 are tied with Boston for first place in the AL East, lead the AL in home runs (137) and are second in total bases (1277) & third in runs (417).
In the most recent voting released on Monday, Judge is currently in the top three in outfielder voting for the July 17 MLB All-Star Game set to be hosted in Washington D.C.

Miller signed with the Washington Nationals in mid-January and started the season in Triple-A with the Syracuse Chiefs appearing in nine games in relief notching two wins and one save while throwing 13.2 innings and striking out 23.
On May 25, Miller was promoted to the big league Nationals in his return to the MLB for the first time since 2016 and has been sensational in 16 relief appearances for Washington posting a 5-1 record with a 2.82 ERA.
In a 5-3 win at Atlanta on June 2, Miller threw a season-high 3.0 innings and struck out a season-high five batters for one of his five wins. The Bakersfield native also has picked up wins over Miami (May 26), San Francisco (June 9), New York Yankees (June 13) and Baltimore (June 19).
In 22.1 innings, the former Wonderdog has 34 strikeouts while only allowing seven walks and seven earned runs.

After re-signing with the Cubs in January, Wilson has made 35 appearances on the mound in relief striking out 46 batters in 34.0 innings while recording a 2-2 record with a 3.18 ERA.
The Clovis native has only allowed 12 earned runs this season and has notched a pair of wins, on April 14 at home against Atlanta throwing one scoreless inning with two strikeouts, and most recently on Saturday worked a perfect inning in a 14-9 win over the Minnesota Twins.
AAA Level
Justin Haley, Pitcher, Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox), seventh professional season
A sixth-round selection of the Boston Red Sox in 2012, Haley made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2017, before returning to the Red Sox last August and spent the beginning of this season in Triple-A Pawtucket making 12 starts going 4-6 mark with a 3.06 ERA striking out 54 in 61.2 innings.
Haley got promoted to the Red Sox on June 8 and made four relief appearances on the mound making his Boston debut on June 13 throwing two innings in a 5-1 win over Baltimore.
The Sacramento native, who played for the 'Dogs in 2011 & '12, was optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday after pitching in a pair of games over the weekend against the Yankees where he faced his former Bulldog teammate Aaron Judge on both Friday and Sunday.

Jordan Luplow, Outfielder, Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates), fifth professional season
After playing in 27 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018, Luplow has spent all his time this season in Triple-A with the Indianapolis Indians of the International League hitting .292 from the dish with 33 of his 77 hits going for extra-bases.
In 74 games played this season with the Indians, the Clovis native has 22 doubles, three triples and eight home runs adding 35 runs, 45 RBIs, 23 multi-hit games and has had three three-hit performances, most recently on Sunday going 3-for-3 with a walk and a run in a 8-3 loss to Columbus (Indians AAA).

Muno is in his second season with the Rainers this spring appearing in 61 games totaling 39 hits with nine doubles, a triple and home run to go along with 20 runs scored and 23 RBIs.
After a 2-for-4 performance on June 24 against the Salt Lake Bees (Angels AAA) with a run scored and RBI in a 5-4 win, the Long Beach native was placed on the 7-day disabled list the following day.
Taylor Ward, Catcher, Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angles), fourth professional season
Ward started the season in Double-A Mobile appearing in 42 games hitting a robust .345 from the dish with 51 hits, including eight doubles, six home runs, 25 RBIs and 26 runs scored while registering an on-base percentage of .423 and a slugging percentage of .520.
Ward was named a Southern League All-Star on June 6, but was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake four days prior on June 2 so he did not play in the June 19 game hosted in Birmingham.
Ward has played in 25 games for the Bees since his recent promotion as the 2015 first-round selection has continued his strong play from the plate in Utah hitting .313 with 30 hits, seven doubles and five home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
In back-to-back games on June 9 &10, Ward had three hits apiece in each game and has seven multi-hit games in Salt Lake.

A 10th-round selection of the Baltimore Orioles in 2013, Wynns was put on the 40-man Orioles roster in November and started the season with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides before being promoted to the Baltimore Orioles on June 3.
In 32 games with the Tides this spring, Wynns hit .257 from the dish with 28 hits, including four doubles and four home runs. The San Diego native added 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored and had six multi-hit games.
Wynns made his MLB debut with the Orioles on June 5 picking up a single in his first career at-bat going on to play in 10 games. He hit .192 from the plate with five hits and four runs scored while hitting his first career home run on June 7 at Toronto.

AA Level
Jimmy Lambert, Pitcher, Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox), third professional season
Lambert was recently promoted to Double-A-Birmingham last Wednesday (June 27) after making 13 starts on the mound in A-Advanced Winston-Salem notching a 5-7 record with a 3.95 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 70.2 innings.
The San Dimas, Calif., native, who was named the 2016 Mountain West Co-Pitcher of the Year, made his AA debut on Friday night starting against the Jackson Generals (Diamondbacks AA) making a quality start tossing six innings allowing four hits, one earned run, three walks with six strikeouts on his way to a victory in a 8-1 win for the Barons.Congrats to @JimmyLambert12, who has just earned a promotion to @BhamBarons!

Much like Lambert, Lee was also recently promoted to Double-A joining the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimps on June 22.
In 22 games in relief on the mound at A-Advanced Jupiter, Lee went 6-2 with a sparse 1.45 ERA notching 25 strikeouts in 31.0 innings only allowing five earned runs while holding opponents to a .174 average.
A Florida State League All-Star, Lee made two saves while only giving up multiple earned runs in one outing.
The Dinuba native made his Jumbo Shrimp debut on June 22 tossing two shutout innings in a 10-3 win over the Mississippi Braves (Atlanta AA) and notched his first win in Double-A on June 26 working an inning in a hard-fought 6-5 win over Mississippi.

Now in his second season with the Travelers, Mariscal has played in 69 games for the Travelers collecting 71 hits, 10 doubles, three triples and five home runs, has scored 38 runs and driven in 41 RBIs while playing primarily at third base.
On June 14, Mariscal was named a Texas League All-Star as he was one of six Travelers to represent the team on June 26 in Midland, Texas
With 21 multi-hit games on the season, Mariscal went into the All-Star break with a great performance on June 23 finishing 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs in a 7-5 win at Springfield (Cardinals AA).
A Level
Fred Schlichtholz, Pitcher, Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego Padres), second professional season
Now in his second professional season, the Coronado, Calif., native has appeared in 10 games in relief for the Single-A Fort Wayne TinCaps.
Drafted by his hometown San Diego Padres, Schlichtholz is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA throwing 18.1 innings with 15 strikeouts while walking 10. He tossed a season-high three innings on June 28 allowing only one hit with two strikeouts in a 5-4 win over Lake County (Indians AA).
A Bulldog from 2014-17, Schlichtholz made one spot relief appearance for Triple-A El Paso on June 2 throwing three shutout innings while only allowing two hits and striking out four in a 8-4 loss to the Sacramento River Cats (Giants AAA).

After being moved to Class A South Bend to start the season, Thomas has made 11 starts on the mound in 12 appearances for the Cubs and has a 3-5 record with a 2.47 ERA.
He has notched 64 strikeouts in 62.0 innings and has been especially strong in his last two starts with 18 strikeouts in his last 12.2 innings, including a season-high 11 in a 3-2 win over Dayton (Indians A-Adv.) on June 21.

After making five appearance this spring with the A-Advanced Bradenton Marauders, Medrano moved down to Class A West Virginia Power on June 8 and has made eight appearances with the South Atlantic League club.
The 2017 First-Team All-Mountain West selection had a season-high three-hit outing on Saturday with a walk, RBI and two runs scored in a 12-4 win at Hagerstown (Nationals A).
Jared Akins, Outfielder, Cedar Rapids Kernals (Minnesota Twins), second professional season
Akins, who was selected with the first pick of the 13th round of the 2017 draft, started his career with the Gulf Coast Twins after playing one season at Fresno State. In 33 games of action, the outfielder hit .253 from the plate with 25 hits, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored helping lead the Twins to the GCL South Division title.
The Glendale, Calif., native started the season playing in six games with Elizabethton in the Rookie League recording 11 hits and scoring 11 runs before being promoted to Class A Cedar Rapids on June 28 playing in three games for the Kernals over the weekend against Burlington (Angels A).

Jake Stone, Outfielder, Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays), second professional season
Stone played in 10 games for Class A Charlotte Stone Crabs hitting .200 from the plate with six hits in 30 at-bats and scored three runs while drawing four walks before moving down to Class A-Short Season Hudson Valley on June 16.
In seven games with the New York-Penn League team, Stone is hitting .200 with five hits and has a double to go along with four runs scored and five RBIs.
In a 6-1 win over Connecticut (Tigers A-SS) on June 26, Stone went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Aaron Arruda, Infielder, Vermont Lake Monsters (Oakland Athletics), second professional season
After playing in 45 games with the Vermont Lake Monsters located in Burlington in 2017, the two-time First-Team All-MW selection is back in Vermont this summer appearing in 10 games so far this season.
The Clovis native is hitting .207 from the plate with six hits, three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs while drawing 11 walks for a .415 on-base percentage.
Ryan Dobson, Infielder, Hillsboro Hops (Arizona Diamondbacks), second professional season
Dobson played in 26 games with the Northwest League club last season helping the team win the South Division title and has returned this summer to Oregon where he has played in 13 games collecting 11 hits, one double, four RBIs and has scored eight runs.
In a 12-2 win over Salem-Keizer (Giants A-SS) on June 24, the Culver City native had a double, walk, run and two RBIs.

Garrett Mundell, Pitcher, Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees), fourth professional season
A 23rd-round selection of the New York Yankees in 2015, Mundell appeared in 35 games in relief last season at Single-A Charleston.
The Lake Forest, Calif., native finished the season with 11 saves while going 1-4 with a 2.64 ERA notching 70 strikeouts in 47.2 innings of work only allowing 12 walks and held opponents to a .194 average from the plate.
This season, Mundell has moved down to Short Season Staten Island making four relief appearances getting three decisions with a win and two losses.
He picked up a win on June 23 against the Aberdeen IronBirds (Orioles A-SS) throwing three innings allowing one hit and striking out three.
Rookie Level
Rickey Ramirez, Pitcher, Elizabethton Twins (Minnesota Twins), second professional season
Ramirez made two appearances on the mound with Class A Cedar Rapids earlier this spring going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA tossing 3.1 innings and has since resumed playing in Rookie ball with Elizabethton.
In four relief appearances in Tennessee with the team from the Appalachian League, Ramirez is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA with nine strikeouts in six innings. Ramirez threw two shutout innings on June 22 throwing 15 pitches, all strikes, striking out four to pick up a win over the Bristol Pirates.
On Saturday, Ramirez picked up his first save of the season with two shutout innings of work in a 3-2 win over the Danville Braves (Atlanta Rookie) striking out three and retiring six of the seven batters he faced.
Korby Batesole, Infielder, Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox), first professional season
After signing with the Red Sox on June 15, the 26th-round selection made his minor league debut on June 18 for the Lowell Spinners against Mundell and Staten Island getting a single off his former Bulldog teammate. In seven games, the Clovis native is hitting .176 with three hits and an RBI.

A first-team All-Mountain West pitcher this past spring, Gonzalez was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round and appeared in three games in relief for the State College Spikes.
Named the Spikes' Pitcher of the Week by SB Nation, Gonzalez tossed two shutout innings on June 24 against Bativa and notched his first professional win on Saturday against Williamsport (Phillies SS).
Jeremiah Burks, Infielder, GCL Tigers West (Detroit Tigers), first professional season
Agreeing to sign with the Tigers on June 18, Burks made his debut a day later in style smacking a three-run home run to help the GCL Tigers West to victory.
In seven games in the Gulf Coast League, Burks has nine hits in 27 at-bats collecting at least one hit in all seven games and has scored seven runs and driven in eight RBIs.

Finally, Santa Cruz agreed to a free-agent deal with the San Francisco Giants on June 15 and has made three relief appearances for the Arizona League Black and Orange teams totaling 4.1 innings and five strikeouts.
