Four 'Dogs remain alive after opening day of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite

LAS VEGAS - The Fresno State wrestling team team tallied 10 individual wins on Friday at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite hosted at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The Bulldogs had four wrestlers advance to day two on Saturday as redshirt sophomore 157-pounder Jacob Wright, redshirt senior 165-pounder Ricky Padilla, redshirt sophomore 174-pounder Jackson Hemauer and sophomore heavyweight Randy Gonzalez all remain alive in the consolation bracket.
"We had some good things happen today and for the four guys still alive, I am excited for them, and we will see what they can do tomorrow," said head coach Troy Steiner.
Wright and Padilla each tallied three wins apiece as the pair overcame early losses to rally in the consolation bracket with Wright picking up two consolation bracket wins and Padilla recording three victories, including a hard-fought 4-2 win on Friday evening over Koy Wilkinson of Utah Valley.
Hemauer, seeded ninth in the tournament, defeated eighth-seeded Brandon Womack of Cornell, 7-3 in the round of 16 before falling 4-3 to top-seeded Bryce Steiert of Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals in the evening session.
After winning by a medical forfeit over fourth-seeded Chase Singletary of Ohio State in the round of 16, Gonzalez fell to fifth-seed Christian Lance of Nebraska by a major decision, 15-5.
Greg Gaxiola (149 lbs), Dominic Kincaid (184 lbs.) and Ryan Reyes (197 lbs.) each picked up one win apiece in the morning before bowing out.
Fresno State is currently tied for 21st as a team with 14.5 total team points and is one of 16 teams with four or more wrestlers still alive in the tournament on Saturday.
The Bulldogs close out action at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite on Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. PT.
