Trio of Bulldog wrestlers earn First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honors

A trio of Fresno State wrestlers have been named First-Team Academic All-Big 12 on Thursday, as announced by the conference office.
IRVING, Texas - A trio of Bulldog wrestling student-athletes have been named First-Team Academic All-Big 12 on Thursday, as announced by the conference office.
Redshirt freshman Brandon Martino, Jeremy Trinh and Jacob Wright were three of 91 total student-athletes honored by the conference with 61 earning first-team honors and 30 were named to the second team.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 GPA or better while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percentage of participation are also eligible.
Martino, a Clovis native and agricultural business major, is 5-7 overall on the season with a 2-4 mark in duals. He has notched two major decisions, one fall, one technical fall and one decision this season.Â
Trinh, a kinesiology-sports administration major from Oxnard, is 7-11 overall with a 0-3 record in duals.Â
Finally, Wright, a criminology-forensic behavioral science major, is 21-9 overall, including 16-4 at 157 pounds. The Dinuba native ranks No. 29 in the latest NCAA coaches rankings and has won 10 of his last 12 matches.
The Bulldogs return to the mat at the 2019 Big 12 Championships on March 9-10 in Tulsa, Okla. at the BOK Center.
