FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State football team held its second scrimmage of its fall training camp on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium. It was the 14th practice of 25 as the 'Dogs prepare for its Aug. 31 opener in two weeks.
Â
The Bulldogs started their scrimmage just past 7 p.m. and were on the field approximately two-and-a-half hours, but practice was much longer than that. Mimicking a game day, preparing newcomers and reminding the veterans of what takes place on a game day leading up to kick off.
Â
"All the little things was today," said head coach Jeff Tedford. "We did that all day today. From breakfast this morning, to the pregame meal. It really was just a rehearsal of what goes on, on game day."
Â
Once on the field, alike at the first scrimmage last Saturday, a large portion of time was given to the newcomers.
Â
"We're such a young team with 40 new guys right now," said Tedford. "We needed to see what they could do, a lot of time has been put in on that. Now we'll get a good evaluation of them and whittle it down."
Â
Also noticed
Senior Josh Hokit, who had been wearing a No. 1 jersey and taking reps at linebacker over the past 13 practices was wearing the No. 33 he wore last season and participating as a running back on Saturday. Running back Jordan Mims was declared to be out for the season last week and Hokit will look to potentially provide depth at the position.Â
Â
What's next
The Bulldogs will be back on the field Sunday evening before thier day off on Monday. Classes start at Fresno State on Wednesday, which will bring earlier mornings on the practice field as the team will attend their classes in the afternoons throughout the fall.
