After missing from the court for three weeks during December, Aly Gamez has been a steady presence for a young Bulldog backcourt, dishing out a team-best 37 assists (5.3 apg) in the last seven games. The junior has also been known to have a flair for the dramatics. On Jan. 22, Gamez hit the second buzzer beater of her career, dropping in a floater against Colorado State.
- An X-factor this season after being the Bulldogs' No. 3 option last year, the Bulldogs are 8-0 this season when Gamez reaches double figures scoring.
- Gamez has twice recorded a season-best 16 points, once in her second game back in the starting lineup at San Jose State (Jan. 4) and again on Jan. 29 against Air Force as she led the team in scoring for just the second time.
Â
Unsung energy                                                                                                                                                Â
While Maddi Utti, Aly Gamez and the Cavinder twins have gotten the headlines in the starting lineup, juco transfer Wytalla Motta has provided the athleticsm and energy to play alongside them. The 6-foot Brazilian has attacked the glass, cut off passing lanes and broken out in transition, playing with a passion that filters throughout the team. Motta is averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in conference play. Last time out against Air Force, the junior scored a season-high 11 points on an efficient 4-of-5 from the field.
