Four 'Dogs earn victories in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. - Four Bulldogs earned wins on Saturday evening at South Dakota State in a 26-12 loss at Frost Arena.
Fresno State (9-9, 4-3 B12) collected decisions from Lawrence Saenz at 133 pounds, Jacob Wright at 157 pounds, Jackson Hemauer at 174 pounds and Josh Hokit at heavyweight.
South Dakota State (11-5, 6-2 B12) tallied six wins with two being claimed by forfeits, two major decisions and two decisions.
How It Happened
With the 'Dogs forfeiting 125 pounds, the Jackrabbits took a 6-0 lead to start. Saenz got the Bulldogs on the board with a 7-2 win over redshirt freshman Zach Price at 133 pounds to cut SDSU's lead in half at 6-3 using a takedown, two reversals and a riding time point for the victory.
A 7-3 loss by Gary Joint at 141 pounds and a forfeit at 149 pounds put the Bulldogs down 15-3 before a 9-3 win by Wright over sophomore Peyton Smith got the 'Dogs back on the winning track. With the match locked at 3-3 and headed to sudden victory, the Dinuba native secured a takedown and turned Smith to his back for a four-point near fall to secure his 20th win of the season.
A wild 18-12 loss by Adam Kemp at 165 pounds extended the SDSU lead to 18-6 before Hemauer came out with a 6-0 win at 174 pounds over sophomore Kelby Hawkins securing two takedowns, an escape and riding time point for his first win since Dec. 6.
After back-to-back major decisions by the Jackrabbits at 184 and 197 pounds, the dual closed out with a 5-2 win by Hokit over junior Blake Wolters at heavyweight as the senior used two takedowns and an escape to secure the win.
Notables
Fresno State closes out the regular season next weekend at No. 23 Illinois (9-3) on Friday and Big 12 foe Oklahoma (4-6, 2-5 B12) on Sunday.
