Fresno State Athletics is celebrating its centennial year and the 2021 football season is the 100th season of competition in program history.
Fresno State's 2021 team captains are QB Jake Haener, RB Ronnie Rivers, DE David Perales and LB Tyson Maeva.
In the longest-lasting series in Fresno State football history, the Bulldogs have a 42-38-3 all-time advantage over the Spartans.
Introduced in 2013, Fresno State and San Jose State added to its long running rivalry the "Valley Trophy".
Fresno State, wearing its red helmets this week, will be seen wearing a sticker in memory of late Fresno State deputy director of athletics Meredith Jenkins who passed away last week.
Fresno State junior defensive back Evan Williams has been named a member of the 2021 Academic All-District® Football Team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced last week.
Fresno State offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has again been named a nominee for the Broyles Award, the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced last week. The Broyles Award honors college football's top assistant coaches each year.
With a win against Nevada on Oct. 23, Fresno State became bowl eligible for the first time since 2018.
The Bulldogs have made quick work on the offensive scoring drives, having 10 touchdown scoring drives this season that have been scored in less than 1:00.
Rivers owns the program record for career touchdowns scored, rushing touchdowns scored, pass receptions by a running back and receiving touchdowns by a running back.
Haener has passed for 3,467 yards and 28 touchdowns so far this season. Haener became the seventh Bulldog to have a 3,000-yard passing season in the history of the program - he joins Kevin Sweeney (1984), Trent Dilfer (1992, 1993), David Carr (2001), Paul Pinegar (2005), Derek Carr (2011, 2021, 2013) and Marcus McMaryion (2018).
Fresno State has five different Bulldogs who have registered at least one 100-yard receiving game this season.
Fresno State junior defensive back Evan Williams has had a breakout season this year, totaling a team-high 81 tackles (53 solo). He adds team-high numbers in interceptions (3), broken up passes (6) and fumble recoveries (2). He also records 4.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble on the year.
Sanders earned his first career start against Boise State and stayed in the starting 11 against New Mexico, becoming the first true freshman to earn a start on the Bulldogs' defense in the 2021 season.
In the last five games, Fresno State has totaled nine interceptions with four against Wyoming, one against Nevada, two at San Diego State and one against Boise State and New Mexico.
Fresno State's defense is averaging 1.8 turnovers gained per game this season. Its 20 total turnovers gained (10 INTS, 10 FR) are the ninth-most by any team in the FBS.
