TULSA, Okla. - Three Bulldogs remain alive after day one of action at the 2021 Big 12 Championship hosted at the BOK Center.
Freshman 133-pounder Haiden Drury, redshirt senior 141-pounder DJ Lloren and redshirt freshman 149-pounder Kyle Parco will each compete on Sunday with a opportunity to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships.
Drury, a unseeded freshman from Washington, overcame a first-round loss to No. 5 seed Mosha Schwartz (Northern Colorado) in Session I to win a pair of matches in Session II in the consolation bracket topping No. 6 seed Job Greenwood (Wyoming), 2-0 and Kellyn March (North Dakota State), 6-4. He will get a rematch with Schwartz in the consolation semifinals on Sunday looking to secure a top-five finish and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
After receiving a first-round bye, Lloren defeated Jeffrey Boyd (West Virginia), 4-0 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals where he battled top-seed Ian Parker (Iowa State) falling 6-2. The Clovis native will take on No. 7 seed Dylan Droegemueller (North Dakota State) in the consolation semifinals needing a top-four finish on Sunday to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
Finally, Parco went 2-1 on the day defeating No. 5 seed Jarett Degen (Iowa State), 4-3 in the first round before being tripped up by No. 4 Triston Lara (Northern Iowa), 9-4 in the quarterfinals. The Concord, Calif. native topped No. 8 seed Jaden Van Maanen, 7-3 in Session II and will battle in the consolation semifinals on Sunday against Jaron Jensen of Wyoming needing to secure a top-five finish to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships.
