Diamond 'Dogs complete sweep over Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Diamond 'Dogs completed a series sweep over New Mexico at Santa Ana Star Field on Sunday with a 12-9 win over the Lobos.
Fresno State (16-19, 13-12 MW), who extended its winning streak to six with the win, continued its torrid pace offensively scoring 12 runs and pounded out 17 hits with seven going for extra-bases.
For the series, the Bulldogs put up 33 runs and 51 hits with 18 going for extra-bases notching 11 doubles, one triple and six home runs.
Zach Presno completed a great series from the plate going 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple, drove in a career-high five RBIs and scored a run.
Andrew Kachel hit his team-leading ninth home run of 2021 and added a double and walk. Zach Morgan matched his career high with three hits and three runs scored.
On the mound, freshman left-hander Ixan Henderson made his third start of the season going one inning before giving way to Tommy Hopfe and Robbie Peters for one inning apiece. Alex Kendrick threw a team-high 2.2 innings and the game was closed out by Cooper Bergman, Nik Cardinal and Oscar Carvajal.
Bergman earned his first win as a Bulldog while Carvajal picked up his fourth save of the campaign.
How It Happened
New Mexico (9-20, 6-12 MW) struck first with an RBI single in the first inning and threatened for more loading the bases against Henderson, but the Fresno native pumped in a strikeout to strand three Lobos on base.
The 'Dogs tied the game at one apiece in the second on an RBI single (watch) by Presno to right-center and tied the game at two apiece with a solo home run by Kachel in the third (watch) to center field.
The scoring continued for Fresno State in the fourth as Morgan scored on passed ball (watch) which was followed by an RBI single by EJ Andrews, Jr. (watch) that he hustled to beat out to give the 'Dogs a 4-2 lead.
A two-out, two-run RBI double (watch) by Presno to right extended the Bulldogs lead to 6-2 in the fifth, but as they did all series long, the Lobos fought back putting up five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a momentary 7-6 lead.
The lead for the New Mexico was short-lived as the 'Dogs responded with four runs in the seventh getting an RBI single by Emilio Nogales (watch) through the right side of the infield to tie the game at seven.
Presno again came up big ripping a two-run RBI triple (watch) to right field driving in Nogales and Morgan and Vinny Bologna added a sacrifice fly (watch) to give the Bulldogs a 10-7 advantage.
UNM answered back with an RBI groundout in the seventh and took advantage of a Bulldog throwing error in the eighth to get within one at 10-9 heading to the ninth.
The 'Dogs made it six innings putting up runs adding two insurance runs in their final at-bat getting an RBI double by Nate Thimjon down the left field line (watch) and Andrews, Jr. closed out the scoring with an RBI single (watch) up the middle.
Carvajal came on the mound for the ninth and made quick work of the Lobos going three-up, three-down to seal the win for the Bulldogs (watch).
