'Dogs stumble at No. 7 USC

How It Happened
With USC scoring on each of its first two offensive drives, the Bulldogs fell behind 14-0 early. The offense began to find their footing on a 10-play, 70-yard drive that ended with Fresno State putting points on the board as kicker Abraham Montano connected from 23 yards out.
The Trojans responded with a lengthy 15-play, 83-yard drive that took over six-and-half minutes off the clock and put USC ahead 21-3.
The 'Dogs returned to work quickly on their next drive, blazing down the field in 84 seconds as Jake Haener connected with Erik Brooks for a 39-yard touchdown. The Corona, Calif. native found the left corner of the endzone to cut the Trojans' lead to 21-10.
Opening the second half with the ball, the 'Dogs got off to a promising start, but a fumble by Haener and recovery by the Trojans halted the early momentum. USC took advantage of the Bulldogs blunder going on a five-play, 46-yard drive that ended with a three-yard rushing touchdown to go up 28-10.
Not going away, the Bulldogs quickly answered back with a five-play, 71-yard drive that saw running back Malik Sherrod rush up the middle for a 32-yard touchdown.
The Trojans responded with back-to-back touchdowns to take a 42-17 lead and added a late field goal for the final score.
Up Next - Fresno State has its bye week before returning to play at UConn on Oct. 1 for its final nonconference matchup of the season. Fresno State opens conference play on Oct. 8 at Boise State.
