Hotly-contested match ends in draw with Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. – With temperatures hovering over 100 degrees at kickoff with the sun setting in the background, the air wasn't the only heat at the Fresno State Soccer Stadium on Sunday night as a physical match between Valley foes ended in a 1-1 stalemate between Fresno State and unbeaten Pacific. The match concluded with 27 fouls called and seven yellow cards doled out.
How It Happened
For the first time this season, Fresno State found the back of the net first. Looking dangerous early, Kassandra Ceja weaved her way into the box in the seventh minute before being taken down. From the spot, the junior buried her attempt to the left side past Brenna Crump.
The Bulldogs remained in control for much of the first half and into the early portion of the second, holding nearly 60 percent of the possession. Attempts at gaining cushion in the match, though, didn't come.
The final 30 minutes saw teams being much more stretched out as the Tigers began throwing numbers forward, looking to hit the Bulldogs on the counter. Pacific nearly found the equalizer with just under a half hour remaining but a ball that found the back of the net from the head of runner on the back post was negated due to an offside. Just under 20 minutes later, Haleigh Wynne found space inside the 18 and struck a low right-to-left shot past Ella Wilson to knot up the match.
With three seconds remaining, a tie up at the top of the Bulldogs' box gave Pacific a free kick from 20 yards out and left Shantay Tamez with Fresno State's fifth yellow card of the evening. Janae Packard lined up the final kick of the game and looked to the top right of the goal, but Wilson palmed away the attempt to preserve the draw for the 'Dogs.
Scoring Summary
6:38 – FS – Kassandra Ceja (PK)
78:27 – UOP – Haleigh Wynne (Anaya Shelton)
