2021 (SENIOR*): Appeared in 12 games this season … was the starting tight end in 10 games … had 14 receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns … had a career-long 23-yard reception against Cal Poly (Sept. 11) … averaged 7.4 yards per catch and 8.6 yards per game … scored touchdowns at Wyoming (Oct. 16) and at San Jose State (Nov. 25) … was also on the receiving end of a successful two-point conversion at then-No. 11 Oregon (Sept. 4) … played a big role in blocking for the run game as well this season … helped Fresno State to two wins over ranked opponents, both on the road. It was the first time Fresno State defeated two Top 25 opponents in a season for the first time since 2004, and the first time both wins came on the road in the 100 year history of the program.
*Utilized the additional year of eligibility approved by the NCAA in the fall of 2020. The NCAA approved a blanket waiver for all 2020 fall sports student-athletes to retain a year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2020 (SENIOR): Played in the season opener versus Hawai’i (Oct. 24) … had three catches for 24 yards and a touchdown … had a long catch of 18 yards … suffered an injury and was out for the remainder of the season ... named to the Fall Academic All-Mountain West team.
2019 (JUNIOR): Played in 11 games in his first season as a Bulldog … had five starts in his first year as a Bulldog - at USC, at Hawai'i, vs. Utah State, at San Diego State and at San Jose State ... had five catches for 42 yards … had a season long 21-yard reception against Sacramento State (Sept. 21) … had two catches twice - vs. Minnesota (Sept. 7) and vs. Sacramento State (Sept. 21) … averaged 8.4 yards a catch.
PRIOR TO FRESNO STATE: Rodriguez has spent the last three seasons at Butte College in Oroville, Calif. ... Rodriguez is a three-star recruit and ranked as the nation’s No. 5 junior tight end recruit by 247 Sports ... earned 2018 All-NorCal League honors ... tallied 14 receptions for 325 yards and a pair of touchdowns this fall for the Roadrunners ... had a season-high three catches in two games and went for a season-best 82 yards on a pair of receptions at Shasta CC while hauling in a 61-yard touchdown pass.
HIGH SCHOOL: Rodriguez played football and basketball at Portola HS ... played both tight end and middle linebacker finishing with 66 tackles, 6.0 sacks and three fumble recoveries as a junior adding 10 receptions for 293 yards and three touchdowns on offense … was a three time All-League selection in basketball.
PERSONAL: Born in Portola, Calif. … son of Ascencion and Maria Rodriguez … has two older siblings; Mario and Mayri … brother Mario played football at Western Michigan from 2013-15 … favorite athlete is Tyrann Mathive because of his playmaking abilities … his biggest athletic thrill is making a clutch play in a big moment of a game … majoring in sociology … was also recruited by Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Louisville … decided to become a Bulldog because the program had established itself as one of the tops in the Mountain West and he wanted to be a part of something that was bigger than himself.
