Named all-tournament at the NFCA Leadoff Classic after posting a tournament-best 0.00 ERA, junior All-America pitcher Jamie Southern (Clovis, Calif.) was selected WAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and 12th of her career. Last week she collected three Top 25 wins over No. 20 South Carolina, No. 18 Arizona State and No. 15 Texas. With opponents managing only a .097 batting average against her, Southern allowed just seven hits in 22.0 innings while fanning 28 for an average of 8.91 strikeouts per 7/IP.

Making her 100th career appearance versus the Sun Devils, she became just the second Bulldog and third WAC pitcher overall to tally 800 career strikeouts. Southern broke the 800 strikeout mark against the Longhorns after striking out nine for a career total of 806.

Against South Carolina, Southern tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 12 for her third 10-strikeout game of the year. She helped her cause offensively after going 2-4 with the game-winning RBI. Versus Arizona State, she tossed another three-hit shutout and struck out seven. Against Texas she pitched her third one-hitter of the year and fanned nine after having her no-hitter broken up in the top of the seventh with a leadoff single.

Having opened the year with a 26.1 scoreless innings streak, she has a current run of 22.0 scoreless innings. Southern was honored as WAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 16 after posting a trio of shutout victories, including a perfect game against No. 18 Texas A&M at the Arizona State Fiesta Bowl Tournament. Tying a single-game school record for strikeouts (15) against the Aggies, the perfect game thrown was the third of her career and fourth no-hitter.
